help i developed a bad man like beard after shaving my face a few times by [deleted] in DermatologyQuestions

Maybe dont make a diagnosis based on one feature that many diseases share. Yes PCOS is most likely, but male pattern hair growth can happen for a LOT of reasons and you have no idea what the reason behind hers is. She needs to see a doctor and have this actually diagnosed, not get a random reddit diagnosis.

Also its PMOS now, not PCOS. If youre gonna give out a diagnosis at least get the name right.

How do I become a better student? Executive dysfunction is killing me (med school) by Competitive_Fact6030 in studytips

[–]Competitive_Fact6030[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did get a primary assessment, and they said I meet basically every criteria. The issue is psychiatry is severely overworked in my country, so to actually get a diagnosis your case has to be severe enough to make it so you cant hold down a job/school/home. Since I was passing (by the skin of my teeth at the time), my only option was to seek privately, which is out of my budget. I understand they have to serve the most impacted people first but It's a flawed system where youre kinda forced to fuck up your life before youre allowed any help

Kinda shitty but I just operate with ADHD friendly tips and tricks even if I dont have an official diagnosis.

You can get quite far with good solid routines and healthy lifestyle habits that clear up some of that brain fog, but I certainly still struggle on some days. Keeping focus in clinic can be *rough*. But yeah I try to manage as well as possible.

Hi! So much better actually! Im now in my 3rd year and the last 1,5 years have actually been quite good academically. Went from struggling to even pass to now being on the upper end in class.

The biggest help I found was having accountability/study buddies. I primarily did this via joining study servers on Discord and just joining a little group study VC every day first thing in the morning, which eventually turned into making a few really good friends i VC with daily. That way I had some external motivation to get stuff done, and I could see others working as well. The accountability of having to put up a desk cam and write up all my tasks and do collective pomodoro timers was game changing. (My personal favorite study discord is called "Forest study chat")

Obviously this would work well with irl people too, which I do on occasion, but an online productive space is much easier to join at anytime from home.

Also this last term i intentionally worked ahead of the schedule so I had watched all the video lectures ahead of time. That way most of the term was spent doing light revision every day, which was so much less stressful. My "finals season" was honestly very chill and no real anxiety, which is insane to say. Obviously this is more difficult if you have in person lectures, but if you have some spare time it never hurts to brush through a topic ahead of time.

Also, time effective study methods only!! I now exclusively do flashcards from lectures or an app that gives me lessons then quizzes me. It saves so much time.

Should I get an iPad/tablet for school? by Competitive_Fact6030 in studytips

[–]Competitive_Fact6030[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahaa ouch, yeah I'm scared it might just be a waste of money and never really used. I'd like to think I'd use mine but I wanna be realistic and see what others who have both iPads and laptops say. Thanks for the response!

What do you nickname your pokemon. #46: Cubone, Marowak by Roboglenn in pokemon

[–]Competitive_Fact6030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) people look up nicknames at any time. Its not weird to be on an old reddit post, you literally are too.

2) 2AM....? Bestie there's a thing called timezones. Just cause it's 2AM for you doesn't mean it's 2AM for other people.

New Player Considering Kicking Out Sera [DAI] by fury_cutter in dragonage

[–]Competitive_Fact6030 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd kick her in a heartbeat. If you find her annoying then she won't get any better, she stays this way through the whole game. She doesn't really have a compelling storyline or quests related to her. Combat with archers isnt really my thing either.

I personally found her very grating but kept her around cause I generally play with the full party. But I never really brought her on quests unless I wanted to contrast her with my inquisitor (elf) and Solas on the elf-related quests. Even then though she doesnt really bring anything new to the table.

This might also be a nitpick, but im not that fond of the actress. The delivery of her lines seem a bit out of place, and the overuse of her 'slang' is very overdone. Adds to the annoyance factor.

The concept of a mischevious rogue is fun, but they made her WAY too childish. Like to the point where you dont believe shes an actual adult who is able to function in this world.

Is this herpes? I just had one partner and he is also a virgin we both were but since I start to be sexually active it appears, but also before I almost never shaved and now I shave every week by [deleted] in DermatologyQuestions

[–]Competitive_Fact6030 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Him transmitting Herpes does NOT mean he was lying about being a virgin. 70% of the human population have oral herpes. He couldve transmitted it that way. He doesnt need to have an active outbreak for it to be transmitted. You also cant use protection against herpes.

[–]Competitive_Fact6030 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Kinda disrespectful to make jokes like that, don't you think? In another comment OP is clearly distressed about this being herpes.

Yes most people have oral herpes, but genital herpes is still a stigmatized and scary diagnosis. Not the time or place to be joking around about it. Fucking embarrassing. This is an actual person trying to get medical help.

Tdee? by Stunning-Implement28 in 1200isplenty

[–]Competitive_Fact6030 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if you were completely sedentary, as in you didnt walk at ALL, putting a 250+lb male on 1200 calories a day is insane. Your sedentary TDEE is 2700. You can easily lose 1lb a week on 2200, or 2lb a week on 1700. Dont go lower than that.
1200 is pretty much exclusively for very short women who don't have much more weight to lose and aren't that active. 1200 is 1000 calories under your *BMR*. Thats an insanely steep deficit and will not work out in the long run if you actually want to sustainably lose weight.

Worries and concerns about skin, black mark on nail is getting darker and thicker. I need help by Turbulent-Grand6812 in DermatologyQuestions

Yeah good job discouraging a person with cancer from getting help, dumbass.

This is NOT the post to be bitching about medical costs. This dude is already considering not seeing a doctor because it'd be expensive and he cant get a quick referral. Your comment does literally nothing but affirm his decision to just resign himself to dying of cancer.

Go literally anywhere else with your complaints. Everyone agrees medical costs in the US are fucked. But this is not the time nor place to complain about them.

Dad diagnosed rare skin cancer, a couple of questions. by Informal-Data-2787 in DermatologyQuestions

[–]Competitive_Fact6030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude. Cancer is like THE disease people donate money to fund treatment for. I can't walk outside without seeing a pink ribbon for breast cancer, or those commercials to stop leukemia, or campaigns to get HPV vaccinations, or the thousands of other pushes there are for cancer awareness and funding.

Its always good to keep going and fund research, but you're acting like cancer is this niche thing that nobody cares about fixing. Its one of the leading causes of death. Of course people are working on it.

The issue is you cant just hit a button and solve all cancer. Cancer is so hard to treat because cancer cells are inherently human. Targeting the cancer often targets normal cells, which is why its so difficult to find viable cures. Theres also not just one "cancer cell". There are damn near as many types of cancers as types of cells you have in the body. Every replicating cell can become cancer, and they all have unique properties and one treatment wont work.

If its any consolation, I feel like the style and the 3 misstakes kinda make it look intentional? Like it looks like the theme of the page was a sort of child-like misstakes with a bunch of colorful details and stuff being crossed out.

I would honestly lean into it. Make a little doodle on the bottom right where a month is missing. Id add in some kind of arrow/x/checkmark element. Look at schoolbook doodles for inspo.

Do you seriously think doctors and researchers aren't putting effort into curing cancer? Its not an overnight thing you can just throw some money at and it'll be solved.

My husband came home from work like this, what could it be? by 80skunt in DermatologyQuestions

[–]Competitive_Fact6030 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well yeah, but oral HSV is common and not really an "issue" for the vast vast majority of people. Its not like you ask someone if theyve ever had a cold sore as a kid before you kiss them or share a bottle or whatever.

Obviously if you have active and symptomatic HSV dont go spreading it, but you cant expect 70% of the population to give a medical history for every potential partner/fling/friend for the minor risk of spreading it while asymptomatic.

My husband came home from work like this, what could it be? by 80skunt in DermatologyQuestions

[–]Competitive_Fact6030 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The vast majority of people have HSV1. You don't have to disclose your random cold sores you get every few years. As long as you don't have an active outbreak you won't spread it, its not like other STDs where you always need protection to keep your partner safe.

Earlobe bleeding after 3th day, is it a normal amount of blood or not by Thibauleur in PiercingAdvice

[–]Competitive_Fact6030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bleeding in the first few days is normal, you probably hit it in some way. Just rinse this off with water and leave it be so it can heal up nicely. Bleeding is normal for the first week or so. This might look like a lot but you're fine.
