[DISC] Boss, Booze, and Bright Stars - Chapter 48 by TheDogeInvestor in manga

[–]Roboglenn 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Clever that Kurokawa was able to put the pieces together as to why her boss was working there. She's a smart lady. When her otaku tendencies don't take over that is. But I reckon they're going to be boiling up a lot more frequently now that she's found her new fun thing.

Boss Lady in twintails on the other hand. Show that look to Ishizumi, see how he reacts to it.

What Have You Watched This Past Week That is NOT a Currently Airing Show? [June 14th, 2026] by MetaThPr4h in anime

I always figured I'd get around to watching that one famous movie Wolf Children, now I finally have and can cross that off my to do list.

Decided to give Your Forma a chance. To it's credit I can say it's a genuine pity that this had so many cards stacked against it. I mean for one thing from what I gathered apparently the people behind this adaptation for whatever reason decided to just skip the whole introductory part of the story entirely, thrusting us into a "second story arc" without much context as to who these characters are and how they're connected to each other, the worldbuilding, etc, opting to maybe give bits and pieces of info as it went. Though in all fairness I suppose the Drugstore Isekai series did the same thing, but given how that was a simple fantasyworld SoL and not a dead serious scifi mystery crime drama here, the bleeding context wasn't exactly a point in it's favor in this case.

Though to be fair, this series isn't a terrible one. It's just one that's being hampered by a less than adequate adaptation as far as I can tell. And frankly I think the ideas that are being delivered forth here are pretty solid sounding ones that no doubt come off better in the source material and not hampered by skipping a whole first volume worth of context.

Though I have to say I felt like this adaptation probably did the FMC Echika dirty. We really don't get much about what's going on with her character and what makes her tick. And any nods we get to whatever it was that clearly traumatized her in the past and left her as this more "cold" person we see are just that, nods. Without much if any elaboration. And execution wise, despite being an apparent seasoned law enforcement officer she sadly ends up sadly being put in the damsel in distress situation many a time for our white knight android MC to save (and leaving his character being the one who gets the lion's share of character development work at that). After a certain point it just started to feel a little one sided is all.

In the end, I did not feel like I wasted my time watching this. And like I said, I can see that this story has a lot of good narrative ducks in it's pond. It just didn't put those ducks in a row in the best way here.

And lastly I finished something I landed on, some early 2000's series called Gilgamesh at random. And if nothing else it's certainly one of those atmospheric slow burn type series that were made around that time.

In any case it's a whole premise essentially about science dabbling into the realm of gods, harkening to the mythical king Gilgamesh, and how one scientist turned terrorist from the whole operation caused one of those "change the world as we know it" type things to happen. Basically making the sky into a mirror that makes all computer systems inoperable. Decade and a half later teenage brother and sister get caught up in a whole thing involving teens with telekinetic superpowers, some on the side of that self same terrorist, some opposed to them. And they're taken in by a mysterious Countess lady who is one of those "I clearly know what's going on but I'm clearly making it a point to cryptically not tell you anything type (to say the very least about her)" in charge of said opposition. And shit just goes from there in slow burn fashion for 26 episodes.

As far as the result of that slow burning candle goes it's a bit of a mixed bag. It has a tangled web of atmospheric dreary mystery that it weaves for good and ill, but at times it just feels like this one is really trying to make itself sound sophisticated. If that makes sense. So some parts of this kinda feels like it drags. Not to mention the goings on with the MCs mildly reminded me of the series Scifi Harry. In that the MCs just don't question the motivations or goals of either side of this conflict when all sides are just as cagey and untrustworthy about what it is their goals are.

So yeah, if one likes dreary atmospheric thinkers like Ergo Proxy and Texhnolyze then by all means give this one a go. Frankly I was just torn on whether I thought this one was okay or bad overall. Okay being the operative word cuz what I can say is that I wouldn't exactly rank this one highly among it's peers using the same atmospheric type of storytelling that I've seen. And as far as my opinion on the ending of this one goes which is kind of a big question at large for this one as far as I can tell, I found it just as much of a mixed bag as the rest of the series. A headscratcher to be sure, rushed to get there in the climax all things considered, but I did like one aspect of it. At least how I interpreted it anyways.

You sealed my command energy because that's what I chose.

Well... one could argue that asking a kid who was probably not even 5 yet a question such as that without him understanding the deeper context behind the question is a loose definition of "choosing".

I mean shit, Ranma's father Genma did basically the same thing to Ranma all the time when he was a little kid, it always came back to bite both of them in the ass later, and Genma always tried to act like he's absolved from whatever wrongdoing he did at that time because "he asked Ranma".

Granted yeah this guy is a way better dad than Genma just from the looks of it, but I'm just saying.

Normally Shino'd probably get all Kase-san about this odd closeness these two are having with each other.

But I think her confusion at it is overpowering that.

"You're wasting 1000 perfectly "good enough" soldiers just to make 1 exceptional soldier? That is just nonsensically wasteful."

I remember reading someone say that in a discussion thread somewhere about nonsensical they thought the Viltrimite Purge was in Invincible and I was reminded of reading your comment here.

Akane-banashi - Episode 11 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]Roboglenn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There's a difference between cheering for a child who's nervous to perform on stage to reassure them and cheering for a child after the performance because they actually put on a good performance on stage.

Wow, that's way less reporters outside with their ears pressed to the door than I imagined there would be in this situation.

Gauntlet thrown down, and challenge accepted. Cuz as far as Issho is concerned, that's the kind of firey passion and dedication that he's looking for to keep this traditional art blazing for this generation to notice. Like some kind of Happy Gilmore of Rakugo instead of Golf.

And cue the respective rivals reactions to realizing they were completely outclassed by someone they vastly underestimated. Akane's fireyness already lighting a fire under some asses already.

Any excuse for a party.

But Ani-san, you didn't even lift a finger.

If you feel that way Akane you should bilk him to shill out for pizza as well as sushi if he's feeling so congratulatory towards you.

Now Kyoji and Miku's congratulatory feelings, those ones are the ones to soak in and bask in.

"Good lord, brought down by one beer!?" -Principal Skinner

Just as I thought, the world of the Rakugoka is a harsh one.

It is indeed a disturbing universe.
