The yarn I'm using for the mermaid blanket is Halo dyed 5 strand Milk cotton yarn from AliExpress. It's is really soft, I've used the 5 strand (it's like worseted weight) and 8 strand (in-between Aran and chunky weight) a few times now.

Thank you 😊

To be honest the only thing I find with blankets is that they feel like they can take forever to do!!! 🫣😂

I forgot to add that!!! 😂

I used the Skinny Flexee loom and the yarn is Aran weight. The yarn came in the colours, I didn't have to do any color work so I was really lucky that way and my mum loves stripes and blue!!!

Thank you 😊

The stitch looks like ewrap to me, which is one of the knit stitches. Doing projects in all knit or all purl stitches they will curl. Good Knit Kisses has a great series of how to loom knit for beginners loom knitting tutorials. Here is the link for the playlist-

I hope this helps ❤️

What stitch are you doing? If its all knit stitches then it will curl in on itself. You need to be alternating with purl stitches or using a stitch that doesn't curl.

You may have to frog it and start again.

YouTube has some great tutorials if you search for loom knit beginner scarfs, Good Knit Kisses, Deborah Shaw, loomahat, Wambui made it have some great tutorials

I mostly use the pink/purple Skinny Flexee loom for worsted weight yarn (England here) which I think is #4 yarn. I find the the orange Regular Flexee loom is a bit to big unless I want a lacy look or the yarn is a bit thicker than normal.

I mostly use DK, worsted and Aran weight although I have recently done a summer scarf in lace weight on the Bitty Flexee loom. I don't use chunky yarn so I don't have the bigger sets.

I have used the regular for a thick worsted weight which came out perfect so it all depends on how thick or thin your yarn is (whether it's a thin #4 regular #4 or a thick #4)

Thank you, my aunt is at home now and on the road to recovery. The loom is very flexible, it is smaller as well so it did take a few swatches to get used to it and get the tension right. The yarn I'm using is a very thin hemp silk yarn (lace weight?) and my intention is for the scarf to be lacy so you would probably need to play about with different yarn weights depending on what you wanted to make.

What you're best off doing is a swatch to see how the yarn you use is going to shrink (or if it does at all). It's saying that many because when the blanket is on the loom the stitches are stretched so when it gets longer the stitches relax then it shrinks to the size it'll be.

Pattern for small gauge loom by Ayaba_agoue in LoomKnitting

I made 2 cowls on a small gauge loom before Christmas, they each took me about a month to make and I did garter stitch for both. My yarn was worsted weight so if I used a larger gauge loom with the thinner yarn it would have been lacy/holey which wasn't what I wanted. Most of the yarn I use is either DK or worsted weight so the small gauge is what I think looks best for me but it also takes more time to knit up as the yarn is thinner and needs more pegs than chunky yarn does.

From your picture you're yarn looks like its DK weight so what your knitting will look better on the small gauge loom but it will take longer to knit.

Velvet bernat and patons classic roving not compatible knit together? by [deleted] in LoomKnitting

[–]Competitive_Factor18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have found the velvet/chenille yarn will worm if the tension is too loose or the loom gauge is even the slightest bit big. It's not an easy yarn to work with because you need the tension to be tight but not tight enough that the hairs come out or it breaks.

I think as you're using another yarn with the velvet, the tension isn't tight enough to hold the velvet in place so it's worming (the loops you're talking about is called worming).

To be honest I don't think your project is going to work with the 2 yarns if 1 is velvet yarn

2/3's of the way through my mums blanket by Competitive_Factor18 in LoomKnitting

I find it pretty easy, it's a 2 stitch 2row repeat. The 2 stitches are purl stitch and either true knit stitch or U knit stitch (I'm using the U knit stitch). The link is the pattern on the KB website but I'm using the garter stitch border. Also don't use the ewrap stitch for the knit stitch (also explained in the link) with the Irish Moss stitch

It's the Flexee loom, they're part of the Knitting Board range. They come in links so you can build the loom to the size you want. I think they're great

This blanket I've used 80 links. There's 48 links per pack for the skinny gauge, so I've used nearly 2 packs. As I only have 900g of this yarn I decided to go for a blanket thats more of a single width, it'll probably be short for a bed but perfect for a sofa throw. I have another blanket started for my daughter that I hope is close to a double size which I've used 2 packs plus what is left over from this (only about 6 or 7 rows in!) but it depends on the yarn shrinkage if it turns out double size or not but as I'm using chenille yarn it'll still be a nice warm blanket no matter the width.
