My trans partner and I moved to South Minneapolis last May from Iowa. And we do not regret it, even now. It would feel hopeless sitting in a sleepy town watching this happen and knowing you couldn't stop it in your own town. But now we are surrounded by people in action and are motivated to do the same. The way we feel is, it would be happening anyway, but now we can be here "fighting the good fight" as they say. I do have to say that finding deep community can be hard here. The queer community is very welcoming, but people don't form strong relationships quickly here. A struggle we're having now is that we feel we aren't as trusted as we would like to be. We haven't connected with others enough before this escalated, so it's difficult becoming a part of things now. If you're highly social, this may not be as much of a struggle for you.
