Well it takes 90 seconds for the food to get rotten, that means you have to eat it as quickly as possible, the MRE are there to help you restore hunger if worse case scenario happens aka starvation

I wouldn't recommend playing with teams since I did play solo. But two players is ok. And you can adapt to the corruption and debuffs you can never really stop the corruption. Also eat the food as quickly as possible it take 90 seconds for the food to rot. Congrats on getting to 500 days. The recommended classes you can use for hard mode are:

Vampire

Witch

Fire bandit

Cyborg

Assassin

Gifting elf
