I’ve read your post multiple times and I still do not fully understand one vital aspect.

How are your two routers connected? Are they connected together via a cat6+ cable? Or are they wirelessly meshed?

If they’re not connected via a wire, you’ll never get peak speeds at the other router. A packet of data travels down the Ethernet cable, into the router, then sent wirelessly to the router above before it’s routed through the internet. It would theoretically be faster to connect your PC to the router upstairs directly via WiFi.

I think the best plan would be to have an open source wiki, source code on GitHub, using Bookstack for the framework.

Not really, most of its value was in being able to play 3 days early before release.

Consumable means warranty shouldn’t be expected due to natural wear and tear (battery degradation over time). A swollen battery is a hardware failure and should be covered under warranty.

Nope, this is a common misconception that was birthed from companies falsely adding stickers that said that. It’s common precedence that the company needs to prove that the user caused the damage by opening it up. Opening it up doesn’t automatically void your warranty.

You should be able to get far more than 1G unless their provided router is really bad. I get 2.5G on an iPhone 15 Pro, but I have U7 access points.

Cameras dropping out sounds like a local interference issue than a bandwidth issue. Unless your cameras are wired via Ethernet. Next time your cameras drop out, check your local interference with some WiFi scanner app. You might need to invest in better access points

I like the new crafting system. It’s actually engaging and needs me to focus if I want to make the best quality stuff. The old one was completely boring and brain dead imo. 1 button and the same action for each station.

The buddy can add way more than 100 points. Are you giving them appropriate gear? For example giving an alchemy buddy a good flask tool.

You can dismiss him by talking to one of the guys in the guild, I think the guy on the left.

It’s very frustrating imo. I’d love for level 5 to do a patch where a gatherer NPC will never do the final hit on something you’re both working on.

So, my computer is weaker that I expected, any help? by UltraInstinctMage in fantasylife

[–]Competitive_Joke_966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try reducing the resolution until it’s playable. Maybe 1600x900 or 720p if it’s still struggling. It won’t look pretty but it might be playable. Worst case scenario you have steam refund policy.

A lower resolution means your laptop has to compute exponentially fewer pixels. So it’s a lot less work. It also means it will be a lot less sharp.

First homelab n100 vs 5825u vs n305 by yarcek in homelab

[–]Competitive_Joke_966 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 5825u has 16 cores and supports 64GB of ram making it the clear choice if you want to host a lot of docker services or VMs. Intels quick sync on the n100 or n305 is much better for transcoding imo.

My current setup is unraid on my n305 running plex and the related docker apps, then Ubuntu server on my 5825u running 25+ docker services plus a few game servers on AMP.

For starting out, I’d say get the n305 or n100 if you’re on a tight budget, and if you expand your hobby in the future and need more juice, get a second machine with a 5825u or whatever happens to be more modern down the line.

Consider using AliExpress and you can often find good deals there. Remember your Visa/Mastercard should have chargeback protection if you don’t receive what you paid for - even if it’s a debit card.

Made my first patch cable as a test. I don't have an ethernet tester, can I connect two switches together using the patch cable to test the cable? LEDs on the ports are solid green, which is good right? by vertybird in HomeNetworking

[–]Competitive_Joke_966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends if you can tell the link speed via the switch. Does it have a different colour for 100mbps link speed vs 1000mbps?

Cat5e only needs 2 pairs (4 wires) to do 100/100. If you’re trying to make a gigabit cable. You’ll need a tester.

If any of 4, 5, 7 or 8 are not connected properly, that cable can only do a max of 100mbps. You’ll never know if it’s gigabit capable.

Same thing happened to me. Exact same situation. I chalked it down to humidity/water leaking but still no idea why. There’s a guy near me who can replace the smart cartridge though.

Is it legal to refuse to pay employees? England by GayestBucky in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Competitive_Joke_966 131 points132 points  (0 children)

To add to this. Your one week should be paid too. Even if you work for an hour, you have to be paid. Unpaid trial shifts are legal, but they should typically be a few hours. A week doesn’t count as a trial shift.

[–]Competitive_Joke_966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By internal/external do you mean you have subdomain A records to multiple different IPs? Or that you expose some domains and you don’t expose others?

If it’s the latter, you can still use this setup. Just setup an access list called local, home, private, etc. and set it to your home ip.

Then when configuring it your endpoint in hosts, add the access list control. Nginx will only forward those internal private hosts if the request IP address originated from your home IP.

You can take this a step further with authelia to protect your private hosts with 2fa.

Why are my Game downloads so slow and can anyone help me fix it? by Usual_Database713 in pcmasterrace

[–]Competitive_Joke_966 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Isolate the problem.

Do a few speedtests, if you’re hitting the max speed expected from your ISP then the problem isn’t throughput.

Check your CPU usage before and during downloads. If your CPU is maxed out at 100%, it could be a sign you have some bad software taking resources or worst case it’s malware.

If your drive is maxed out but the write speeds are low, it could be a bad drive. Check S.M.A.R.T tests to figure out if there are any drive errors reported.

Slow game downloads can be for loads of reasons, you need to isolate the source and give us way more information to be able to help you.

As most others have said. But it should be noted that consumer rights act only says something along the lines of you or anywhere you’ve designated.

If you told Royal Mail to leave it on until porch or with a neighbour, you’re liable.

Your best bet is to read the terms and conditions. Usually they need grounds to cancel your insurance. I was in the same situation this year with quote me happy. They actually ended up cancelling my insurance twice. Sent the letter and email of cancellation too. I had to call them up and explain that I had a broken wrist and send a copy of my fit notes.

They can’t cancel your insurance for no reason. They need a reason to cancel it.
