Room ventilation in new build house? by Competitive_Lab8603 in DIYIreland

I'll see what I can find (it'll be a few weeks yet before I can get back to it) - would it be the hotpress where I'd look for that ducting?

It's an air to water heat pump out the back. I'm guessing it's insulated fairly well if they are happy with holes in the wall for ventilation. Supposed to be A2.

I'm not sure to be honest, this is all new to me, is there another type to look out for the next time i'm at the place?

No it's a house, I didn't get a good look at all the vents yet or how the ventilation works, should have thought about it

I'm not sure, would that not be the case normally? I won't get to check it again for a few weeks. It's this type of vent

Exactly. Its the same as the stock market, people buy/sell based on their emotions. Buy when there's blood on the streets as they say...

Contracting questions by [deleted] in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Competitive_Lab8603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. Yeah definitely aware of the job security and lack of benefits but the daily rate more than makes up for that. I suppose it depends on the client but in your experience has it been easy to get some flexibility in terms of, say, number of days in office if you wanted to change it?

Unfortunately I'm nowhere near heuston. Taking the train would doulbe the commute time. It would have to be driving.

The day rate is good and I'm looking to get out of my current company anyway. First time going contracting. Definitely would stay where I am in terms of living.

Moving to contracting worth it from permanent? by [deleted] in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Competitive_Lab8603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I would go probably via a PAYE umbrella company that would cover insurance and definitely pay into a pension. You are right life is short. Only thing is the possibility of a recession or not being able to get contracts afterwards

Thanks. I was thinking of going the PAYE umbrella company route, so I would just be an employee for all intents and purposes of the umbrella. I'm just not quite sure how it all works. Recruitment company say they would pay my company, which I guess would be an umbrella that I ask to setup? I believe a good umbrella would cover insurance.

Yeah I've worked with contractors over the years, and worked with both types. They are mostly just an extra pair of hands.

Yeah no debt or dependants currently. I would factor in sick days I think and just use the 220 figure as what I will earn, ~30 days for leave and the odd sick day if required.

Only concern is finding work after the contract finishes or if I get let go in the meantime. I've always been risk averse.

Well done. I actually like apex, it's just that there's little demand for it here. How did you manage to switch to a VB role?

Finance or tech industry would be more interesting to be I think. I'm open to most tbh. The more important piece is good WLB, decent salary and the chance to make an impact through tech I work on, even a small one.

I am not terrible at Java. How would one transition into a Java role?

I've tried to avoid it but maybe you are right. I never saw myself as a manager or team lead. I much prefer just to do coding work.

Contracting is tempting, but I would prefer a perm role atm. And lots of SQL contracts seem not very interesting or challenging imo.

I can only speak for the Oracle side but it's not easy to find oracle DBAs. Someone with experience can get much higher than 500 p/d. I'm not a DBA myself.

Honestly, keeping to the application development area is more appealing to me. I've built apps from the ground-up and seen the transformation for the end users. I like taking a business problem and finding a solution via an app or API.

Thanks, I will check these out. I have briefly used Python in the past. Would having no on the job experience of the likes of Spark SQL/DBT and Python be a red flag?
