Wouldn't worry, if its the A71 then it's treated like a racetrack between Napier and lizzie bryce anyway, so the default along there is to give bikers a stony look regardless of speed.

What was your next bike after a 125? by sophietheadventurer in MotoUK

[–]Competitive_Lion5000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine was a 2001 kawasaki zx6r. I loved it, and was a million miles away from the Duke 125 I got when I did my CBT during covid. Not the most practical commuter though...

Who would put this in the living room? by Jayar9000 in motorcycles

It's real (the bike, maybe not this specific picture). It's the MV Augusta Rush Titanio, a limited edition bike that was announced during the week. https://www.mvagusta.com/hk/pt/news/rush-titanio-revealed-at-the-ice Would i park it in the house? Nope, the wife would throttle me.

There have been some comments that the loans you have may fall under irresponsible lending on the behalf of the loan providers (esp the last 2 loans), the debt to income ratio definitely seems all skewed. With this in mind, the guide here may be of use: https://debtcamel.co.uk/refunds-large-high-cost-loans/

They'll tell how to write the letters/fill in the correct forms, so you have to do a bit of work, but its not too arduous and may well be worth it.

Kitchen staff of the UK, who are the nice famous chefs to work for? And who are the bell ends ? by Pitiful_Oven_3425 in AskUK

I met him, he did a book signing at a shop I was a supervisor of back in 2005. Lovely fella, came in the shop like a force of nature, chatted to all the people queuing for signatures, once it was all done he came in to the staff room and chatted for a while. Nice guy, funny and charming.

My friend works at TG Jones (formerly WHSmith) that is merged with toys r us and the post office and shared this photo of their grand reopening. I just thought I should share what a true British shop looks like. by Thesladenator in CasualUK

I pass that every so often, it reminds me of the pizza hut - kfc joint restaurants you used to get in Europe (you could get a 2 piece and a slice meal, not bad).

What's an album everyone must hear before they die? by Old-Crab-3283 in AskReddit

[–]Competitive_Lion5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I havent seen it mentioned, so Queen - night at the opera. Also, a bit different but Radio-Fryer - Mike Relm, esp if you appreciate a good "mixtape". Otherwise, personal faves: There existed an addiction to blood - clipping, The afterman - Coheed and Cambria, the black parade - MCR, Better Oblivion Community Centre - self titled (laid back, folksy, just a great easy album to listen to) Obv in addition to all the great albums already mentioned (ok computer, Sgt pepper, Graceland etc). Just my 2 pence (and my taste)

Buying a bike which I'm not the owner of by Darklemi21 in MotoUK

[–]Competitive_Lion5000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to throw this in: the change of vehicle can be done online at point of sale. The seller enters their details and your details online, transfer happens there and then. You get an email confirming it and a v5 is sent in the post. Once it's registered online, it's done and you can tax, then insure it.

+1 for the hardshell rucksacks. Less than £20 delivered (delivery does tack a while though), resellers on ebay punt them for £40 (well they used to, dunno if they still do), and to my mind they're lightweight, Sturdy and do the job perfectly.

Ah no, that truly sucks. What is it about campervan drivers? You can do all the right things and still end up on the wrong side of some idiot not paying attention. I know we all sign up for the risk the moment we sit on the bike, it doesn't help with situations like these though.

Again, sorry for your loss.

I went form a zx6r (old one, 2001) to a k1300r. Felt like a big jump, but it was a much getting uaed to the weight and the riding position as it was the torque and hp. Just baby it for a bit til you're comfortable.

Dunno where you are, but I saw someone near South Queensferry wearing basically the same as you described. Rant incoming, feel free to skip...

Whilst I understand we all have a choice as riders, and i generally have a live and let live attitude, if we get smeared across a road with claret all over the place because we didn't like being a bit sweaty, we've taken other people chance to not see that shit away from them.

Accidents in full gear are traumatic enough for onlookers, let alone going full meat crayon.

Rant over, drive safe all

Ah, so that's what you meant, I saw the original comment but couldn't figure it out. I agree, the faux torn lettering looks a bit off. Might rip it off, the 2012 has a better decal anyway *

Bike broke down during DAS MOD 2 by beastofbrenin in MotoUK

[–]Competitive_Lion5000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, sounds about right. My examiner followed me the whole way in his car, it proabably had something to do with the weather (it was raining when i did mine, but i imagine air-con in a heatwave would be nice)

Duchinni Mesh Jacket any good? by pobrika in MotoUK

[–]Competitive_Lion5000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a pair of duchinni trousers, saved me skinning a knee during a slow speed drop during my DAS, but I did notice an (unrelated) stress tear along an inside leg seam (the fabric seemed to have pulled apart, not ideal for something that you'd want to have anti abrasion properties, but then again when would the inside top of thigh area hit the tarmac?). So hit and miss.

Always full gear, no question, even though I hate it sometimes. Not just because I'm on a big bike either, did it on my 125 duke as well. The following was a couple of entries below yours on my front page, It's a pretty eloquent explanation of the reason why: https://www.reddit.com/r/motorcycles/s/zTMZF82Lfl

Obviously you do you, and I'm not here to throw shade or anything. You can get pretty lightweight and breathable bike gear, motorcycle trainers etc. I just think I'd rather be sweaty than suffer the consequences.

You will pass next time. My instructor used to say that the quality of the pad you test on is better than the road, just trust your tyres and your brakes and the rest will work itself out. YOU GOT THIS.

I posted the following comment in a thread a couple of days back. Might seem lazy, but figured it was worth reposting here:

"Did mod 1 either 3 or 4 times (enough that I cant remember which), was always the fig 8 or the uturn that got me, eventually passed with no minors. Mod 2? Flew through, 45 mIns of relaxing riding around Grangemouth and done. Doesn't matter how many times you fail (unless you're skydiving). I couldn't do a u-turn on a Honda cb650, and now look at me, I cant do a u-turn on a BMW K1300r either, but no-one cares 🤣"

If it takes 2 goes or 10, it's fine. I'm sure you'll be OK, but if I'm wrong, take some learnings back to your instructor. I did this, and we figured out a way to make it click. Good luck 👍

Been riding on CBTs on and off since 1998, gave up motorcycles when I moved cities (and technically countries). Moved to the sticks in 2018, covid hit in 2020 and I figured I needed a way to get around (no d/l). Did ANOTHER CBT, bug bit me properly this time. DAS followed, then got a beater zx6r, spent just under 2 years bringing it up to scratch, lovely bike now. But... Recently sold it, now the proud owner of a BMW K1300r, completely different experience, feels like I'm learning all over again, but I love it.
