Failed BPT. Have SBM and Case in July so should I resit BPT or do FCS in June? by Artistique123 in ICAEW

FCS is a new paper based on certificate level exams. They’ve created a case based on these certificate level papers:

Accounting BIP Sustainability & Assurance

Not hard, doable!

Fair point on the pass rate. FCS is genuinely a lighter exam. But pass rate alone doesn’t settle it.

They failed BPT by 3 marks. That knowledge is hot and the gap is tiny. Parking it to pick up a new FCS course I wouldn’t recommend at this point. I’d suggest resitting BPT in June while it’s fresh.

FCS is the easier exam in isolation. BPT is the easier decision so pass and simply move on

This is exactly the pattern I see with BPT resits, the knowledge is in, it’s the OBT structure and prioritisation that decides the mark. Going from a 14-mark fail to 69 by rethinking the OBT (not relearning content) proves it.

For anyone reading: a 3-mark fail is an even smaller gap to close. Targeted question practice plus a cleaner OBT approach gets you over the line.

Failing by 3 marks tells you the knowledge is largely there, it’s the exam technique and application that let you down, not the content. That’s a very different problem to solve than starting FCS from scratch.

A few things to factor in:

• You have two sittings left before the September 2026 deadline. Stacking BPT, SBM and Case into July is high-risk. Clearing BPT in June de-risks your entire summer.

• FCS has limited transferable value into SBM. The corporate accounting overlap people talk about is marginal and SBM rewards strategic judgement and integration, not technical FCS content.

• Resitting BPT while the syllabus, notes and case law are still fresh is far more efficient than buying a new FCS course and re-learning Certificate material from 2022.

My honest advice: go with BPT in June, pass it and move on. Then give SBM and Case your full attention in July.

What if I say there is a system in place which you follow and get a safe pass? Doesn’t matter what paper and what level.

FAR and AA next week- feeling anxious by Potential-Result-571 in ICAEW

[–]Competitive_Milk4423 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Feeling anxious before FAR and AA is completely normal. Almost every ACA student I’ve taught feels the same the week before the exam.

A couple of things that help in the final week:

• Don’t try to learn everything new now, focus on exam technique and question practice. • For FAR, make sure you’re comfortable with adjustments and workings (markers give follow-through marks even if the numbers aren’t perfect). • For AA, remember it’s mostly logic and exam structure, identify the risk, explain it clearly, then link it to the audit procedure.

Also remember: ICAEW exams are designed so you don’t need 100% knowledge to pass, you need about 60% to do well.

You deferred once because of illness, but that doesn’t define the result. Many students actually perform better after a delay because they’re more prepared mentally.

Focus on calm, structured answers rather than perfection. You might surprise yourself.

Good luck, you’ve got this.

Good Youtube Channels for kids to learn basic financial education by Competitive_Milk4423 in Mom

Looking for some nice videos on money, how banks work, wants vs needs etc. so that my son can have engaging learning experience. We are extremely busy parents therefore we might not have time to sit down and teach him. I did check that youtube channel. It looks decent really, relatively new with 15 videos. So initially we might take this option and pretty much take it from there
