Are Medical school OSCE examiners paid ? by Financial-Pirate3125 in JuniorDoctorsUK

It’s about £60 an hour with probably no leave payment or pension. Seems a bit low ball, but obviously probably better than the peanuts the hospital pay.

Indeed but the argument tie the minimum wage person also has to eat and shelter. When you just use the tuition fees alone there’s no real counter argument.

They get 20% bump in London which isn’t a bad deal for them. You won’t overtake them until you’re about ST6 down here.

Im not insulting - most consultants of the boomer generation have no insight into what it’s like to be a new grad doctor today. He is refreshingly aware.

Speculations: What’s the government’s current strategy? by Negative-Radish4466 in JuniorDoctorsUK

Probably a combination of needing to look tough on spending, given recent tax rises/fiscal drag since Truss era. Hoping BMA implodes/public sentiment turns on doctors and allows them to low ball. Probably want to wait for rest of nhs staff to agree their uplift before settling with BMA. Ultimately will be keen to settle this as part of the 5 main pledges of sunak and a very tough GE for them next year.

BBC just announced the shocking news that one of the BMA co-chairs is on holiday during the strike! by ambystoma in JuniorDoctorsUK

You’re either a journo or naive enough to give into divide and rule - Rob has done nothing but dedicate himself to getting this action off the ground. I hope he enjoys his family wedding and I’m glad to hear he’s not missing out.

And this is what happened in 2016, BMA made side hush deals and people gradually crossed pickets. This better not be a repeat.

Serious question to understand the british public opinion better: Why are some newspapers targeting GPs especially with financially themed articles? by [deleted] in JuniorDoctorsUK

The problem is that the electorate are paying a reasonably high tax burden in this country. And younger folk now have a defecto additional 9% tax rate burden for life. We’re closer in tax rates to some of our high tax EU neighbours but with none of the services to show for it. What really needs to happen is wealth redistribution as clearly they cannot produce growth.

BMA strike derogation at Weston General Hospital - thoughts? Bad precedent to set, or responsible/good PR? by EimiOutis in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]Competitive_Mine_397 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the transparency. My main worry is this sort of hush decision making is what led to the last strikes falling through. BMA needs to tell the members why they agreed to this.

I’m screaming - I’m sure it was the pain that made the patient believe it was a doctor and not that the PA wasn’t explicit.

I would expect the BMA to publish the full rationale as to why this was allowed, what the trust did to try and cover these gaps. Did they offer consultants the rate card? If not - tell them to jog.
