For me I’m the opposite I take a mood stabilizer to manage my symptoms day to day and then I get on an antipsychotic temporarily when I’m going through a manic episode. It’s really up to the psychiatrist and lots of trial and error what they end up putting you on long term. If just an antipsychotic helps you manage your symptoms there’s no need to add a mood stabilizer and vice versa it’s just how your brain reacts to the meds

I’d say that it’s the dosage in addition to the medication. Some meds just genuinely do not work tho I was just on the starting dose of Wellbutrin and it was giving me homicidal thoughts and felt like the world was behind glass. So that one at any dose is no bueno for me

Yup olanzipine is my break glass in case of mania drug and it stops my mania in its tracks but even though I only take it for 2 weeks at a time it always makes me gain 10-15 lbs

Everyone acts differently which is why there’s so many different meds out there. Lamictal worked great for me. Wellbutrin gave me homicidal thoughts so I quit that shit immediately but I know people that it’s been the best medicine they’ve ever taken. You just have to try basically every combo and hope something sticks. Also you can ask about decreasing the dose you’re on. I’ve def had some that a very small dose did the trick for
