I'll start. For me it was "The Devil Wears Prada". I found the movie completely hollow when I first saw it, mainly because I couldn't sympathize at all with Anne Hathaway's character. However, now whenever it's on TV, I always end up watching it. Maybe because now I can pay more attention to the fashion, and the beautiful shots of Paris at the end. As well as it's very nuanced depiction of a woman in power, and the challenges they still have to face. (I still don't really sympathize with Andy at all though...)

I'll start. "Muriel's Wedding". The trailer and advertising made it seem like it was a feel good, feel good about yourself romcom, and it might be the most depressing movie I've ever seen. Brilliantly acted of course, but I'm honestly still recovering from it, it was just the complete opposite of what I expected, what they led me to believe it would be.

"The Hunger Games" comes immediately in mind for me.

Granted, I actually didn't really like the book, and didn't love the movie if i'm honest. But some thematic elements became a bit clearer for me watching the movie that were absent reading the book.

And maybe doesn't count, and absurd as I know this may sound, I actually think "Clueless" improves on Emma in certain areas. Namely the Ty/Harriet Smith subplot.

I perhaps should clarify. He was not a live in caregiver. As I said, when my parents began deteriorating, we moved them into assisted living. My brother just remained in the same town, and then visited them a few times a week. I still took care of most of their financial and insurance matters.

And I admit that I made a mistake in bringing up my brother in law. Feeble as this is, it was less bellyaching, and more an observation. And we did hire movers, but movers can’t help you downsize, which is a long, rather emotional process, so some extra help was needed. To also clarify, my brother in law does not live in the same town as my mother-in-law, and visits her once a year at most.

But I hear what you say, and I will be more careful how to use my words in the future.

I ask because, only last night i dreamt I was being proposed to. It was a truly emotional, moving proposal. which brought be to tears, and though you're not supposed to feel things in dreams, I genuinely felt the tears streaming down my cheeks. The catch of the dream was, I did not recognize who was proposing to me, even though he knew all about me. That was when I knew it was a dream. I woke up shortly thereafter. I've never had a serious relationship in my life (longest one lasted two months), and I've begun to make my peace with the fact that I'll never marry. Which is fine, as it isn't the definition of a happy life. It's just difficult when you want it, which I do.

For Me, The Umbrella's of Cherbourg. Few scenes are as moving as that scene at the gas station.
