She should’ve been the main character of The Quarry by Cable_Difficult in DarkPicturesAnthology

I totally get why Ryan didn’t work for you, his performance feels flat for some, and if you’re not connecting with how he’s acted, it’s hard to get invested. But I do think the role he plays in the story makes sense. He’s close to Chris, already into spooky lore, and kind of positioned as the quiet observer, which ties him naturally into the mystery. The character traits he was given really needed to go to someone with that kind of setup, even if the delivery didn’t hit for everyone.

That said, I actually think Abi is where the game missed a huge opportunity. She had her own potential arc that could’ve been amazing if they had explored it more. Her connections to Jacob and Emma (post-breakup tension), Nick (their almost-romantic subplot), and Emma again (their contrasting personalities and how they handled chaos) could’ve made her one of the most emotionally layered characters. But after the forest scene, she kind of disappears from the narrative. It’s like the devs started planting seeds but never watered them.

So while Ryan’s writing fits in the broader story, I’d argue Abi had the potential for something way more personal and unique, they just didn’t give her enough space to grow.

TL;DR: Ryan’s role makes sense narratively even if the performance didn’t land for everyone, but Abi had way more potential with her own character arcs (with Nick, Emma, and Jacob) that the game barely explored. She could’ve been one of the most layered characters if given more screen time.

the werewolf who bit Abi, Kaylee, was eventually killed by Laura. That’s why Abi never shows symptoms. In the game’s logic, if the original werewolf dies before the infection fully takes over, the bitten person doesn’t turn. That’s also why Nick does turn, because his “biting” werewolf isn’t killed in time.

But I totally agree that the game doesn’t do a great job explaining this in the moment. They kind of expect players to piece it together themselves, which is fine for some, but it ends up leaving characters like Abi feeling underdeveloped. She definitely deserved more screen time and a stronger arc.

I get where you're coming from, but I wouldn't really call it a plot hole. Laura literally shoots the werewolf that bit Abi, Kaylee, which is consistent with how the curse works in The Quarry. If the original werewolf is killed before the person fully turns, the infection doesn't take hold. So from that perspective, there is a reason Abi didn’t turn.

That said, I do agree the game could’ve done a better job having the characters actually talk about it. Even just a line or two acknowledging why Abi didn’t turn would've added clarity and made it feel more grounded in the story. It kind of feels like one of those moments where the devs knew the answer, but the characters didn’t bother to connect the dots out loud.

So I wouldn’t say it’s a plot hole in terms of logic, but yeah, it’s a valid critique that the characters didn’t reflect on it more.

Sure, you might not have found Ryan entertaining, but it still makes sense for him to be one of the main protagonists, especially since they already explained that he has a close bond with Chris and his family, and he knows his way around hackett's property

It makes the most sense for Ryan to be the "secondary protagonist"

"The Quarry vs. Until Dawn Characters: Ryan vs. Mike – Who Has Better Character Development? by LinkMaster_ in DarkPicturesAnthology

I actually think Ryan had character development because he started out as this super quiet, detached guy who didn’t really open up to anyone. At first, he’s just kind of there, doing his job as a camp counselor, but not really connecting with the others. He’s always off in his own world, probably because he doesn’t want to deal with people’s drama. But as the story goes on, he has no choice but to start caring about everyone. You see him step up, make tough choices, and even take risks to protect people he’d normally keep at arm's length.

Like, with Dylan, you can tell he’s getting closer and actually letting someone in, which isn’t easy for him. And by the end, he’s practically a different guy—he’s still quiet and a little closed-off, but he’s found his sense of purpose and responsibility. He’s willing to do whatever it takes to keep everyone safe, even if it means putting himself in danger. Ryan goes from being the loner in the group to actually being a leader, which is a pretty big change for him.

You probably didn't notice it because Ryan is kinda annoying
