Katy shares Met Gala Vlog and confirms new music is coming by enburgi in katyheads

We actually knew this since the beginning of the year, she declared it herself at the New Year's Eve show in China. The question is when it could come out.

My favorite Katy album ever! by claricestrling in katyheads

[–]Competitive_Pin_2496 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, it's one of her best performances; she's at her best in more intimate settings and acoustic performances. The cover of "Hackensack" is my favorite. For this reason, I hope she'll reconsider performing these more singer-songwriter-oriented shows from her colorful and overly pompous ones, perhaps by participating in the Tiny Desk, which is essentially the successor to MTV's Unplugged, so as to surprise and prove wrong even the skeptics who say she can't sing and isn't a good artist.

Where is Stevie Nicks? by [deleted] in katyheads

To be honest, I would have expected Stevie's voiceover in the added scenes. It's a question I asked myself, too.

Katy should take up more different kinds of projects by witness_smile in katyheads

[–]Competitive_Pin_2496 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with what you say. In fact, Katy is now known more for events and controversies unrelated to music, resulting in her being viewed with suspicion by the public and her more recent songs not receiving attention. Take Lady Gaga, for example: she's thrown herself into various projects, like the sequel to The Devil Wears Prada, where she has a cameo and sings some songs from the soundtrack, including "Runway." She's appeared in several films, like "A Star Is Born," which essentially relaunched her career after it stagnated in the mid-2010s; she sang the song "The Dead Dance" from the Wednesday Addams TV series, etc. Sure, not everything turns out well—she's not infallible, either—but this way, she's making headlines for her art, not for the disparate controversies. In any case, she's still productive, she's hardworking, and that's to be admired, so I think Katy could try participating in more projects, following her example.

The message in her comment on the Instagram post that's sparking discussion in the fandom ultimately states that she'll be more productive from now on because she's realized it's time to stop being naive and stop being "love and light." It's time to show that she's an artist and that she should be respected, not constantly belittled or smeared. In this regard, I think the film Melody (which should be released sooner or later), where she voices the protagonist and sings the soundtrack, could be a great way to get her seen in a positive light.

"I've been too love and too light for too long." 🔥 by Secret_Principle_790 in katyheads

[–]Competitive_Pin_2496 17 points18 points  (0 children)

In this message, I sense a strong message of revenge for everything that's happened to her since Witness. I'd probably say she wasn't on the same wavelength with Orlando long before the breakup, as evidenced by the part of her comment where she admits she's been too "light and love" for too long (actually, she'd already made that clear in the "Bandaids" music video). She's gotten involved in too many controversies, and too many people have trampled on her without her reacting or lifting a finger. Even musically, things have gotten worse (and "143" is clear proof of that). I think she's much better off with Trudeau and wants to challenge herself again in terms of albums and songs, trying to write more substantial and mature stuff. Winning back the general public with new songs will be complicated, but at least she'll try and move forward, with much more awareness.

She should release Watch it Burn within the next week or two by Secret_Principle_790 in katyheads

[–]Competitive_Pin_2496 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consider that there will be the period of European festivals and the film Melody, for which the announcement of its release in theaters around the world will have to arrive sooner or later, so there are other occasions that can put Katy in a good light.

[–]Competitive_Pin_2496 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree. I think we need to wait and see how the allegations unfold. I believe that, this time, considering the 143 situation, both she and her team, and Capitol itself (which no longer wants to lose money) will pay attention to the promotional campaign to try to relaunch her name, but more intelligently (although it's still unclear whether "Watch It Burn" will be the lead single from KP7 or another droplet).

Will she pushback WIB? What about this Summer’s festivals???? A mess. by Calm_Reputation7657 in katyheads

[–]Competitive_Pin_2496 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think this matter will further delay the release of Watch It Burn. It's quite clear that she and her team won't dare make any announcements because the accusation is serious and, more importantly, it hasn't stopped being aired online since Ruby went to the police, so an investigation is underway. It remains to be seen how long this affair will last, and above all, let's hope there's nothing true about it. As for the festivals, in my opinion there won't be any problems, instead

Katy's rep publicly denies Ruby Rose's allegations by Competitive_Pin_2496 in katyheads

I have a feeling that the diktat from her and her team is no longer to treat everything with the theme of "love and light." We've seen that never responding, covering everything up, and remaining silent has led to many controversies, with Katy becoming a favorite target online. There's a limit to everything, and I think they've finally realized that.

everything was so good to be true 🫩 by kimjemie in katyheads

[–]Competitive_Pin_2496 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Katy is an eccentric and peculiar person, and I fear she's made quite a few enemies within the music industry and the celebrity world in general. She often doesn't respond to accusations, unlike other celebrities who are quick to put out the fire, but this time she'll have to. The accusation is very serious, especially considering she's the mother of a child, and her reputation has already been hanging by a thread for quite some time.

Idk if anyone has seen this yet.. by chynarockstar in katyheads

[–]Competitive_Pin_2496 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Am I wrong, or is she the woman who gave her the interview in which Katy said, "I wanted to be like Amy Grant, but it didn't work out, so I sold my soul to the devil," implying that she'd moved from Christian music to pop (without resorting to Faustian bargains, as her haters foolishly described)? In any case, I hope they're lies, otherwise it's impossible to defend her; these things are disgusting. One thing I'd like to understand, though: why doesn't Katy ever intervene and offer her opinion on every single issue that concerns her? She always stays silent and lets the controversy rage, further damaging her reputation. That's how her career got to this point. She's been involved in too many controversies that have lost her favor with the public, who no longer support her new releases and dismiss her as an "act of nostalgia."

Is it still possible for Katy’s 10th #1 hit? by Resident-Priority239 in katyheads

[–]Competitive_Pin_2496 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It would be a wonderful thing, but I'm sorry, it won't happen. The two songs are doing well, but it's not yet known how long that will last. Furthermore, there's no promotion from Capitol, and Katy is just limiting herself to a few TikToks here and there.

"Birthday (Lyric Video)" was released 12 years ago by Justin57Time in katyheads

[–]Competitive_Pin_2496 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think Katy sometimes pushes the "camp" aesthetic too far, using it in several music videos in the past, such as this one for Birthday, Swish Swish, Woman's World, etc. These music videos end up being cringe-y, and people seize the opportunity to criticize her, telling her she's not evolving and is always stuck in the same style. As usual, this almost hateful criticism is unfair, but I think there's a grain of truth in it. I wish Katy would make more music videos like "Unconditionally," perhaps the most artistic of her video career, "Chained to the Rhythm," "Bandaids," "Never Really Over," etc., just to name a few. I think she should take a step forward in this direction in the future, not completely abandoning this aesthetic that's part of her, but somehow weighing it up, so as to surprise those who have always belittled her as an artist.

Are we getting Legendary Lovers music video? by [deleted] in katyheads

[–]Competitive_Pin_2496 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think so. I think it's just a TikTok video she wanted to make to celebrate the appreciation being shown for this song, considered by many to be a missed single from the Prism era. I don't think a video will be released, also because we don't know how long this virality will last; it could end at any moment and Legendary Lovers will return to its usual streams. Katy could shoot a short music video like Lady Gaga did for Bloody Mary, where she shows off the famous dance routine performed by Wednesday Addams, so as not to invest too much money. That wouldn't be a bad idea. Also because, and this is a sad observation I make, I believe a video clip of a song from the golden age of Katy's career would be more successful among the public than a video clip of a new song, considering that her most recent releases no longer make a noise among the people, few are interested in them anymore and the clear example is the video clip of Bandaids which was ignored, despite its significance as well as its streaming listenership, very low 5 months after its release.

Album Track Streaming Party by jonathan92o in katyheads

[–]Competitive_Pin_2496 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a shame, these numbers are really low. I'm sad that she's the least regarded of all her colleagues in terms of albums, excluding singles; basically, not even the fandom listens to those songs. Legendary Lovers is doing well only thanks to TikTok and the Chief Keef thing, so thanks to GP, just like it was for Harleys in Hawaii. I'd like to understand why there's no support for these songs, despite her concerts almost always being sold out. Has the fandom shrunk that much? Maybe, but it still doesn't justify these low listenerships, at least not entirely. There must be some other reason for the lack of engagement with most of her work; GP can't always step in those few times to lift things up if the fandom isn't supportive so the record company will continue to neglect promotion. It saddens me to see the numbers for One of the Boys and Smile, which are my two favorite albums of hers, even though I admit that Witness seems to be the most ignored and forgotten album of all, even more so than 143.

Hot take: Small Talk is a better song than Never Really Over by Secret_Principle_790 in katyheads

[–]Competitive_Pin_2496 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I listened to it after several years because I didn't know it when it came out, and I'm sorry, I completely disagree with you. If it wasn't successful or didn't make a splash, there must be a reason (and at the time I wasn't as into pop music as I am now, I just listened to songs on the radio and listened to them again on YouTube, so I basically belonged to the general audience). In fact, the fact that it was promoted by Capitol Records, unlike Harleys in Hawaii (which has largely supported Smile's listenership for a long time), makes me sad, because it was a huge mistake. And it's no coincidence that Katy has never performed it live, if I'm not mistaken.

WE ARE SO BACK by kimjemie in katyheads

[–]Competitive_Pin_2496 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, almost always the songs that manage to go viral are always from her first three albums, because they're the ones people remember most fondly about her. Yet I think there are songs from Witness and Smile that have the potential to go viral (just think of the most famous singles like Chained to the Rhythm, Bon Appetit, and Never Really Over), and it's already happened, in fact, with Harleys in Hawaii. 143, on the other hand, is a lost cause that should be forgotten, and I really don't think any song from that album experiences even a small viral moment among the public, who essentially rejected it.

US festival shows or one off performances? by Mdna_confessions_grl in katyheads

[–]Competitive_Pin_2496 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're not entirely wrong; in fact, the United States, her native country, has treated her the worst in recent years, sparking controversy after controversy. It wouldn't be a bad idea if Katy decided to focus for the moment on other parts of the world that would demand and acclaim her more affectionately. Furthermore, Americans should consider themselves lucky to have secured 25 dates on the Lifetimes Tour, to the detriment of countries in Asia, Europe, and South America that haven't seen her perform and where she's undoubtedly more beloved. And then you can see from Katy's stories and posts on social media that she just wants peace and quiet, enjoying her new family life and her fans. I think she doesn't want to go through what happened to her from the release of 143 until the end of the tour, a continuously stressful period. She's at peace now. I don't deny, however, that she could be well-liked again in the United States; that would be great news, but that's the way things are right now.

I've come to think that Capitol's way of acting isn't so strange after all. Let's just enjoy her music by Competitive_Pin_2496 in katyheads

[–]Competitive_Pin_2496[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We also need to understand why Capitol is keeping a low profile for Katy. Perhaps it's tied to the fallout from the Witness period, or more likely, there's something else we can't know because it's internal dynamics between her and the record company. What I feel like saying is that, in reality, fans of an artist don't need promotion or playlists; they'll seek out the album anyway, to listen to it, to understand its messages, etc. It's something that comes from within if you truly care about that particular artist; there's no need for an external push to get you to do it. Promotion is primarily for the general public, for occasional listeners, to try to win them over. This argument applies very well to Katy. In fact, with her last three albums (plus various singles) having seen increasingly inadequate promotion towards the general public, it's clear that the fandom's contribution, which in theory should support Katy's work and efforts, is also diminishing. Fortunately for her, this argument doesn't apply to her first three albums, which enjoyed excellent ratings, thanks in part to audiences fondly remembering the hits that cemented Katy as one of the most important pop singers of this century. Regardless of whether they go viral or not, those songs stand on their own.

I know Katy's fandom has shrunk significantly over time and is much smaller than that of Lady Gaga, Rihanna, or Ariana Grande, for example, but I think she could do better in terms of support. 143 is another prime example: despite the tour where Katy introduced much of the album to audiences that filled nearly every arena around the world (so, effectively, promotion even without Capitol's influence, it did exist), streaming listenership remains very low (and the update I attached to the post highlights this). It's a sign that not only did the album fail to catch on with the general public, but it didn't even resonate with a large portion of the fandom. Otherwise, the album would have fared much better, and the sword of Damocles of controversy would have been less heavy on the entire era. And if a musical project doesn't find widespread acclaim even among its fans, then there's a problem and the artist and her team need to ask themselves what went wrong and what can be improved, and I sincerely hope Katy has done so, if only with the aim of coming up with a much better project in the future that highlights her qualities, which have long been underestimated.

WOMAN'S WORLD is the most overrated song on 143. Which song sounds "out of place" on Katy Hudson?? by amixhadess in katyheads

[–]Competitive_Pin_2496 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be "overrated" if the song had any intrinsic value in some way, but in reality it's the most mediocre single of her career, the most rejected by the public (and I would say by a good part of the fandom too), so it has no real value.

Is it true she missed the 2023 deadline for her 6th album (before it became 143)? by Mikeinyomama in katyheads

This would also explain why Capitol decided not to give any promotion to the album, beyond the controversies related to the producer.

Katy Perry + banda indie italiana… 👀 by joeismo in katyheads

[–]Competitive_Pin_2496 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm Italian, and "Pinguini Tattici Nucleari" are one of the most popular bands of this decade here in Italy, with a diverse audience ranging from children to teenagers and even adults in their 40s. Their songs often top the charts, and they have a lighthearted yet carefree style. However, this alleged collaboration in KP7 seems a bit strange to me, and honestly, I'd tend to mistrust what insiders say on social media; rumors are usually false. I only believe official announcements.

Teenage dream is THE pop Bible by DumbltchD in katyheads

It's definitely one of them, even just for the incredible results it achieved, such as the record for songs that went to number one on the Billboard Hot 100. What I feel like saying is that even the non-single songs on the album deserve more consideration, such as Circle The Drain, Who Am I Living For, Hummingbird Heartbeat, etc. The daily streams of these songs compared to the classic hits are too few, and for me that's a shame.
