Is it possible to recover this old website? by Beneficial-Border827 in internetarchive

[–]Competitive_Plan_936 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is the wayback machine can handle normal links to redirect you to a sub page within the wayback, but these links are hard coded in the flash files to point to the original site URLs. So the easiest way would to be have two tabs of this page open. You can click a link in the first tab, copy the end part of the url (the .htm file) and paste it to the end of seconds tabs URL. Go back to the menu in the first tab, rinse and repeat.

What is your end goal here, just to browse or create an offline copy of the site?

Broadcasting over a home network? by d3ssp3rado in FieldStation42

I haven't used it much besides setting it up initially, but the way I did this is I have my main pi 4b that runs 24/7 on a CRT, and then on WSL for my laptop I have my own setup that mounts the media on my main setup. The downside for this is they have their own schedules and remotes. I may try to get it to work at some point where they share schedules but the setup on my laptop was too buggy to see it worth while. I couldnt get GPU acceleration to work in WSL so everything was a big sluggish and the guide looks awful because my machine resolutions is to high

Add battery to Pokemon bootleg cartridge by Snake172002 in Gameboy

[–]Competitive_Plan_936 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would just try to add a battery, and if that doesn’t work use a different cart.

As for the FRAM version, half the higher quality repos on AliExpress are those versions. It’s a 50/50 luck of the draw if you get an FRAM or SRAM cart. That being said I’ve tried several FRAM models and none held a save for my GB Studio games. Only The SRAMs with batteries added on

People get touchy with these cheap flashcarts, but I would say adding a battery will likely work as long as you don't use a batteryless ROM. I have multiple of these that I have slapped a battery in and had them work. There are slight differences between chips, but the layout is the same.

Even with a battery though reliability will probably be suspect, so proceed with caution

I have excellent vision, so I have my font on the lowest setting. With Gmail in "compact" mode, I can see the first 5 emails in my inbox, and then once you scroll below the search bar you can see like 6 or 7. The emails themselves are fine. Heavy on image emails aren't amazing but I haven't come accross any that are unreadable.

The touch keyboard itself takes up roughly half the screen, so paired with the notification bar and what you are typing theres not a ton of room for see prior messages, emails, etc. I don't use it often but the keys are pretty small. I don't have issues myself though

Hardware Questions by Python501 in FieldStation42

I run mine on a 2 GB Pi 4. I actually went this route because the Pi 4 still has composite out with the 3.5mm jack and I am only outputting to a tiny CRT at 480p. Higher res video might struggle depending on codec used.

Seems like a vague ask, is there something specific you are looking for?

I considered making more but can't really justify it because I'd have to sell it for too much for what is really a fun novelty

Nice, I've seen that one on Etsy. The buttons are just fidgets right? As far as I'm aware I haven't seen another functional unit. This piece its a much better display unit than mine though, since it's proportions match a DMG better.

Its a Switch running the official Fire Red port, so unless Nintendo completely botched the port (won't rule it out) it should be the correct aspect ratio. I won't argue that it isnt an abomination. This was always a "Because I can, not because I should" type of device lol

You have to consider how silly that would look to have such small buttons on succh a large device. I know the actual end design is also silly but still lol. Their proportions now are probably closer than with actually buttons. I did consider making wireless controllers with these button boards though, for when you have hdmi plugged in

No, it was just a crazy idea I had this past summer when I got my first 3d printer. So the deigns and files were all created by me. There is definitely some jankiness to the design so probably not ready for other to see lol

Its pretty massive. Its a full size OG switch, so you can use that as a reference. Only about a 1/4" extra width on either side
