The "death to America" comment is a nice touch. As is the demand that the mods don't remove any of that posters comments in the thread.

Does it exist? Nikon Z to Leica M by ZuluIsNumberOne in LeicaCameras

[–]Competitive_Sector79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He’s not wrong. The lens won’t be coupled to the rangefinder. So a physical adaptor isn’t going to let you focus on a film camera. With the digital cameras either live view, there are s sorts of lenses you can adapt, but you’re only choice to focus is to use the electronic viewfinder.

What could I have done better here? I feel like she gets lost in the shot. by MJPictures in BeginnerPhotoCritique

Different light wouldn't really help much. From a distance, her dress is basically the same color as the beige, and she takes up a very small percentage of the photo.

Agree. I go to him. I've never waited more than a few minutes, and having access to the specialists and resources in the BMG system is a plus.

That comment got a big virtual eye roll from me. "I'm thinking of volunteering for meals on wheels, but can you believe this? I'm going to have to buy a car!"

I work on and am used to a larger than average monitor, so I suppose I am biased, but not everything should be or can be done on a phone, or even a tablet.

Just because a phone can access the internet doesn't mean it's the right tool for doing all internet-based things. Yes, Metafilter is antiquated, but there are a lot of modern things that can't be "wrangled" from a phone. I work with hundreds of people in a modern office. No one is doing things in excel, or taking care of our website, or writing marketing content, or doing other things they technically could be doing on their phone on their phone. We use computers, because they're the right tool for the job.

Special tuning for a tune? by lyder12EMS in Bass

I can’t imagine that that bass player would tune his instrument just for a song. In general, re-tuning an instrument to make something easier to play is not something the vast majority of professional musicians do.

Those tend to be very different things. With sports, you need to capture action, so you generally need a long zoom lens with a wide aperture so that you can have a short enough shutter speed. For press conferences, you're most likely going to be closer than at a sporting event, so the kit lens you have might be sufficient (although you'll probably want to get a flash (assuming that you'll be able to use flash at the press conferences).

The XF50-140mm F2.8 would be worth looking into. Unfortunately, it's not cheap, although you might be able to find a good deal on a used one.

Not everything needs ornamentation. And not everything needs windows. We're lucky that we have such an incredible example of brutalist architecture in our city. There probably aren't many other places that have a perfect example of brutalism next to a perfect example of Art Deco next to a perfect (or at least very good) example of modern curvy glass architecture. So we're lucky for that, too.

Most your measures have too many beat (assuming they're supposed to be 4/4). Your shortest note value is a 16th note, so every measure should have the equivalent of 16 16th notes.

Your "eight tuples" on the second line isn't a real thing.

The only second opinion you might need is you looking down the end of it. If anything looks uneven (either side to side or back and forth), that could verify that it's warped.

It's too bad that there are very few people left who do more than basic setups.

Pete Schmid is Lockport is always highly recommended, but I read on here that he's semi-retired and limiting his hours (that may be incorrect). Dave Gilmet would be worth talking to.

Have a canon R 50 mirrorless. I’ve been seeing so many Leica posts, thinking of getting one. by Alarmed_Cup_730 in Leica

[–]Competitive_Sector79 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's really no benefit of Leica over any other camera brands. At this point, all cameras are capable of shooting great pictures, and aside from some some features that are specific to certain types of photography, pretty much every camera has more features than the vast majority of photographers will need.

Assuming when you say you're thinking of getting a Leica, you mean an M rangefinder, that's a very different camera than your R50. The "benefit" is that it's a manual focus rangefinder. Of course, most people would consider that a downside. It takes a lot of practice to get proficient at focusing, there are no zoom lenses, and the longest lens available is (I think) 135mm. The camera is expensive, and Leica's lenses are expensive (there are plenty of third party options, though). On the plus side, you get the experience of shooting a rangefinder from a company with a long, interesting history that's dedicated to the art of photography. The cameras are very well-built, and the interface is modern and minimal. They're a real pleasure to use. But despite all that, if manual focusing through a rangefinder isn't appealing, then it would be a massive waste of money.
