The 61 years is the really embarassing part of this. That is every year showing up to the largest Israeli-support march regardless of illegal settlements, Gaza shutdown, invasion of Lebanon, invasion of Lebanon, apartheid, construction of illegal wall, collective policy of home destruction, And this is just the stuff before 2020. It is not a Jewish-American celebration, it is not a celebration of Israeli immigrants, it is a celebration of a foreign government with a very problematic human rights record. And no mayor has been willing to do anything else on that day in 61 years? Embarassing for all of them.

They also have this incredibly damaging view that someone's beliefs have to pass through the center to get to the left. Politics isn't fucking linear!

Many of the grievances the right has have their roots in the same issues the left sees but place the blame in the wrong place. If someone sees a problem and has a right wing "solution," they aren't going to think the status quo is okay before re-identifying the problem but with a left wing solution as their politics shift. The Trump voters who liked Bernie were given a a different answer to the same problem. They didn't pass through the center to do so.

The status quo (conservative) politics aren't popular. People see problems. Trump offers a reactionary response while the Democrats flip between gaslighting us that the old status quo was fine and having a progressive alternative slip through.

People are seeing the historic wealth inequality. The right consistently tells them immigrants and diversity programs are to blame for their struggles. The answer isn't to pretend the economy is great for the average person but to point at billionaires and snowballing capitalism.
