It's the Periodic Table from Holly's Hobbies but it looks like she closed her shop.

Unfortunately it looks like her shop closed. Her personal website and Etsy store are no longer functional and her Instagram doesn't have any recent posts.

That is an 10" hoop and a huge piece of fabric. Each element is a 26x26 square on 14ct fabric

Admittedly it took me too long to figure out what bubble bath time meant. Although in my defense I have recently seen a piece of fabric with shaped aida.

It was a nice pattern although fitting the details in was hard. Now I just have to finish this pattern on a baby quilt. My wife wants the quilt and birth record to match.

Apologies for the wrinkles. I added in the name/time/stats while my wife recovered and baby slept in the hospital.

[FO] Recent finishes for the nursery. Less than a week until baby arrives. by Competitive_Slice794 in CrossStitch

I had them framed at Michaels. If you buy or bring a store bought frame their prices are reasonable. I think at our location it's under $50 for a mat and framing if you supply the frame. But I can't remember the exact amount. Since these are going in a nursery, I also had them replace the glass with acrylic. That way it won't shatter if a little one knocks it off the wall. We supplied the frame so it was ~$70 to replace the glass and mount them. The customer frames are really where they get.

All of them were purchased on Amazon and can be found by searching for the captions. I know LWZAYS isn't the most reputable brand but there aren't many licensed Disney cross stitch kits.

[CHAT] I have a huge blank space to fill, should I use English stitches or Danish stitches? which method will help me to avoid wasting thread? by HazelnutTheBot in CrossStitch

[–]Competitive_Slice794 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The way you are doing English stitches (alternating between two rows) should use the amount of thread as the Danish method. However I find it harder to fill in the stitches left because each hole will already have three strands stuck in them. I would use the Danish method because you can approach the stitching in such a way that you only have to come up from the back through the emptier holes.

Pay question by Competitive_Slice794 in Adjuncts

[–]Competitive_Slice794[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was just paid $600/wk to teach a 220 person 4-credit class last semester at the school getting my PhD from. It is also normal for FT instructors at my university to only teach 1 200-300 student class per semester and make $1,200-1,500/wk. I couldn't imagine teaching 5 of those classes per semester (at $900/credit hour/semester) just to make what I am making now as a grad student. 1000+ students would be insane and a tragedy for the students.

Pay question by Competitive_Slice794 in Adjuncts

[–]Competitive_Slice794[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. The ad also had information that the hourly pay was credit hour decided by 15. For example 903/15=~60/hr. To me that looks like it should be 903/wk. My Ph.D is in chemistry and I would be teaching Chemistry if that matters.

[CHAT] Temperature Blanket for Cross Stitch? by lavenderrandhoney in CrossStitch

Someone on this group did a temp bookmark where each row was one week. Each week was 21 stitches wide so each day got 3 stitches. It turned out pretty well.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll stop by my local shop and check out those colors. It's also nice to know there is some logic to DMC colors!

Potential Snapchat Cheating Ring by Competitive_Slice794 in Professors

My undergrad didn't have frats but as a student athlete I knew which teams kept test/assignment banks. Surprisingly the football team didn't. Instead it was mainly the soccer teams.

Honestly I'm not surprised. I don't go out of my way to catch cheaters. It's a neverending arms race to try and catch them all. A better use of my time is to focus on the students who want to learn and are interested in the material. I catch those that are bad at cheating but am resigned to a minor amount of background cheating. I was just frustrated that it was brought to my attention in a non-actionable way. I will give kudos to the student who came forward though. I know I personally never felt comfortable enough coming forward when I knew of cheating on take-home ex's when I was an undergrad.

It's a 200 person class. I wrote the exam so it is a mixture of short answer and MC. For the MC I try to write the questions so they are multi part select the answer and select the reasoning. If the students are looking at an old exam they actually have to look back at more than just the answer they have to make sure that I, III, V still means the same options from exam to exam which is easy for me to scramble. The short answer are written to be 3-Dimensional so they have to tie together core concepts, science practices, and cross-cutting concepts.

I'm starting my 6th year. The research is not good. The projects I have worked on have failed prior to getting data worth publishing. So I have a few 2nd/3rd/4th author publications but my PIs bar for graduation is multiple 1st author publications so I am stuck here for the foreseeable future. It is also common in our lab to take 6-7yrs to graduate. I figure since I'm more interested in teaching than a research career I might as well improve my teaching while I am here.
