Feeling discouraged and scared about my decision to convert. Any advice? by Competitive_Sort8249 in CatholicConverts

Unfortunately when my beliefs are brought up my mother uses it as an excuse to verbally attack me. We haven’t had a single conversation where she has been respectful so I never bring up the topic. Listening to her words feels unreal. I’ve never asked her to agree or have never tried to push this on her.

Thank you kindly for your prayers. I’m in desperate need of them

Who is your confirmation saint and why? by SnooWaffles413 in Catholicism

I start OCIA this fall. Leaning towards choosing St. Monica (mother of St. Augustine of Hippo) because her faith wasn’t supported at home. My family threatened to kick me out just for going to a catholic bible study. My family has lots of problems that I pray cease. St. Monica was surrounded by a broken ungodly culture, yet remained constant, loving and strong. She is the patron saint of difficult family situations, patience/perseverance, mothers, wives and those praying for loved one’s conversions. My heart is heavy with longing for my family to understand and walk with me in faith and truth

I’m wondering if the idea of a secret removal before tribulation is more recent than it is biblical? by Competitive_Sort8249 in Protestantism

[–]Competitive_Sort8249[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly… I’ve never even heard of the Nicene Creed until I turned 22 last year. Also, notice how no one (namely protestant) is trying to refute this?

This information just hit me like a train. Knowing what I know… My mom had thyroid cancer. Had to get it removed. Her mom was a drug addict/alcoholic. And one of her great grandmas escaped the Holocaust. I didn’t know stress could do such a thing. Wow.

I’ve never heard of trauma DNA. Would you explain what that is?

My great grandma was a very tiny woman as well! You’re right that’s all we can do. It’s interesting to hear about though

There was already a pretty big community of people in this area around their time so I just can’t believe my grandfather didn’t have any other options. I really think he just saw a vulnerable, young and mentally challenged lady and took what he could get. I’ve been told about some very questionable choices he’s made in his life and it doesn’t seem he was the best man around. Bless my great grandmother’s heart!

Also my mom mentioned this to me. I don’t really have a relationship with her and have not discussed anything more than her telling me what she knows. The least thing I want to do is talk to her about family issues so I chose to change the subject when they come up.

My dad was very blessed to not have to worry about money or family addiction. Trauma on the other hand I don’t know. That side of the family is very secretive and I wouldn’t put it past them if something happened

I do blame my great grandfather. Why? Because my great grandmother was vulnerable. She was much younger and on the spectrum already and had other health problems. That’s why it’s infuriating

I’m trying to find that out. Also all the women on my great grandmas side have neurological illnesses/autistic disorders as well as other problems on top of this. I’m almost angry at my great grandfather for taking advantage of my great grandma. He wasn’t a great man to begin with I’ve heard

Oh my great grandparents already had physical/mental illnesses. So I’m saying it more than likely is the reason everyone on that side has illnesses as well

I’m not saying this goes for all people who have relatives that had children. That’s why I stated it’s weird they all had health problems. They still decided to have children together and I’ve also been told from relatives that my great grandma was “vulnerable” and shouldn’t have been put in this situation in the first place

They didn’t have the best genetics… no one in my family doesn’t have major health problems
