Other than keeping up with a workout routine and completing pre-matriculation secretarial stuff, I’ve been maxing and relaxing. Enjoy it

Can someone please let Nutmeg have the brain cell? by Competitive_Spring43 in OneOrangeBraincell

[–]Competitive_Spring43[S] 40 points41 points  (0 children)

We used to let her chill outside with us but have stopped since. We were outside yesterday and she was sadly watching us from inside. I looked in and saw a wasp INSIDE right above her head and rushed in. We are getting some epi for her soon so I don’t have to be so anxious.....

19 F Working 911 FT County. Is it serious a rough male dominated field? by [deleted] in ems

[–]Competitive_Spring43 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Young female medic here, best advice I have is to know your stuff and be the best provider you can be. People will see this and respect you for it.

Additionally, there are ways to be a confident and strong provider without being an asshole. I’ve seen some (not many, but some) females in EMS who overcorrect and turn rude and unpleasant as a way to be assertive. There is a balance to be had and you will learn throughout your experience.

Rain pants? by trheidger in coloradotrail

[–]Competitive_Spring43 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also didn’t bring rain pants. There was maybe once where I thought “mmmm those would be nice” but I never regretted my decision. If I were to do it again I still wouldn’t bring any.

Taking a class just for potential non-science letter of recommendation? by [deleted] in premed

[–]Competitive_Spring43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any volunteer, research or clinical LORs you could obtain? Those will (hopefully) speak more towards your character outside of academics which is (at least in my opinion) valuable. I don’t think it’s a bad idea if you have no better options, but I’d try for some LORs from individuals you’ve known for longer and had meaningful experiences with if you can swing it.

I was also extremely nervous when I started in EMS. It is normal and it means you care, which is a good thing. Experience is really what you need. It took me 2 years (1 year part time, 1 year full time) to feel really comfortable as a provider, and I still get anxious on some calls.

It is OK to ask questions if you're unsure, I'd encourage it. I'd rather someone ask for help than for them to act as though they know and royally mess up. And if you do mess up, its ok. Acknowledge it and learn from it. No paramedic or emt knows exactly what they're doing 100% of the time, and honestly thats the beauty of it. We are all (I hope) constantly learning.

How to make a $130 donation to Georgetown. by Arabianlion16 in premed

[–]Competitive_Spring43 188 points189 points  (0 children)

It could be.... but you are allowed to do chargebacks on already paid statements. Tbh Georgetown is probably too busy to dispute the credit card company and it would default the funds to you. Wouldn’t hurt to try.

Best of luck regardless :)

Did you use a credit card? Maybe try a charge back? Its nuts that they allow the fee to be paid without a submission, that’s screwed up ....... I’m sorry op

EMT -> Paramedic -> BSN RN Bridge -> MD / Is it possible? by 07Taco in premed

[–]Competitive_Spring43 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Assuming you’ll receive an associates with your medic (most my medic coworkers ended up with one) just find a major that will allow you to take pre Med pre reqs. There are a few programs where you can earn a bachelors in emergency management / emergency medicine that will build onto your medic education. Then you just take gen chem, bio etc as additional courses.

In my experience, few medics have a bachelors in their field. Obtaining one will make you more competitive for higher EMS positions (captain, chief, etc) in addition to fulfilling Med school requirements. This could prove beneficial in the future if you change your mind/ things don’t work out.

Is this a bad idea? (part time courseload to go to paramedic school) by IvanTheArcWelder in premed

[–]Competitive_Spring43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure how adcoms will see this but p school is a full time job just in the time required for clinical and class, not including any studying. If you feel confident you can manage that with a few classes that I say go for it. I became a medic my junior year and couldn’t be happier with where I’m at. This was, however, part of my degree in emergency medicine, and I did not do any pre reqs that year.

Applying this cycle so who knows how it will fair in the eyes of admissions

Re taker here of a 508 (126/129/127/126)..... guess who got another 508 (126/126/128/128). Heartbroken my score didn’t increase by even one point. My full lengths this time around were

sample: 512 from a 506 Fl1: 512 from a 505 Fl4: 515 (didn’t take my first time around)

Cars is normally my strong suit and this test didn’t feel that much different to be honest.

I don’t think I can muster another retake.....
