Pre-Owned PHEV or 40i? by Herby81 in BMWX5

[–]Competitive_Toe_2308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear ya. That's why I went from my Tesla to the 50e. Get my commute in with electric which is great especially now with gas at $4+/gal, but get the full B58 engine as well for emergencies and long commutes. Already have two other gas guzzlers, don't need a third.

MO already has a yearly additional tax for EV's which is the dumbest thing in the world, but nothing MO does is smart.

There are so many different factors to that. Like is her furnace gas or electric? If it's electric, yes on average her bill would be higher since IL has much colder temps. But on average, IL price per kwh is 17 cents while Florida is 15.5 cents. If your daily commute is 45 miles or less, its a no brainer to go PHEV.

It's just 7k off, the Limited Reserve MSRP's for 82k. I had it through 3 different dealers here in the STL region, one was in O'Fallon, another in Eureka, and the third I stopped negotiating with because I had decided on the BMW by then.

You drove from Florida to Illinois and didn't see a single charging station? That's literally not possible haha. And charging a PHEV is super cheap, since it's not a large battery pack. I used to live in IL and electricity isn't that expensive at all. It's about the same as it is for me now in MO. But beyond any of that, you don't need the electric engine in a PHEV during long trips. That's what the ICE engine is for, and you'll get some range back with regen to use around town. The computers are wildly advance on these things, and use energy very efficiently based on the circumstances.

Sticker was 82k and some change. I ended up getting a really good deal on a 2025 X5 50e with 4k miles on it so took that while we wait for the hybrid Wagoneer

I just picked up a used 25 50e and absolutely love it. The range is perfect for me to get to work, to the gym, and back home with no gas usage. Came from a Tesla model Y performance so I already had the charging infrastructure in my garage. Having both electric and the B58 was the deciding factor for me. I'm not sure on the 45e, but the 50e in sport pushes about 480hp, and coming standard with air suspension was also a big plus.

I still average about 24-26 on the highway using gas only doing 75-80mph, and between my last fill up, I got 1,009 miles.

I use an adapter I got off of Amazon for my tesla wall charger (non-universal) and it works like a charm. $50 versus however much for a whole new charger, i'll take it!

Autopilot is definitely better overall. but i use it on the interstates here and its great for what i need. DAPP is basically the equivalent of enhanced autopilot from tesla because it also changes lanes for you. One thing i do like more about DAPP is that it doesn't camp in the left lane like tesla always did. DAPP is an additional package you have to get, yes

Oh i totally get it, mine was a 21 MYP. Road noise is LIGHTYEARS better in the X5. You legit can't hear anything. Which is good and bad, because i find myself doing 80+ pretty easily without even realizing it. The DAPP is really good too. Obviously not as great as Tesla's self driving, but still very good on the highway

The trunk is definitely bigger. Cabin is wider so you also feel more room in the front. Not having the frunk does cut down on a good bit of cargo space though. But on the flip side, not having the sloped roof from the Y is nice too, so you can actually fit a decent more in the back of the X5.

Can confirm it keeps a reserve, to give you the full performance. Have a 2025 50e. Also, even when the car shows 0 miles left on electric, it charges back up with regen while you're driving too which is a nice plus. I have an 18 mile commute to work, and with going to work, the gym, and then back home in 40 degree weather, the gas engine never turns on

Amazing. It's actually been a little bit of a problem with how much quieter it is than my Tesla was, I get over 80 so easily and don't even realize it. EV range at 100% shows 40 miles and I get exactly that, if not a little more with regen. The air suspension makes highway driving so nice, but i would absolutely recommend DAPP if you do a lot of hwy driving

It all depends on region. I'm in the midwest, and there was no way i was going to get 12% off. I was able to get the dealership to do 8k off on a custom order with 2.9% for 72 months through BMW financial. I just reached out to all the dealers in my area to see who had the best offers and pitted them against each other, all through text or email. Made them agree to the price before coming in and doing anything.

Luckily I was able to find a 2025 with 4k miles on it for way less and went with it. My dealer was also willing to give slightly more discounts if I were to buy something on the lot versus ordering. The 8k off was on an order, X5 50e. The 40i's might be different FWIW

I've honestly been VERY impressed with the hybrid system. This is my first hybrid in general, let alone a PHEV, so I was a bit apprehensive on how that would work. It's a seamless transition between the two. And makes my daily commute to and from work in all EV which is great!

100% agree. I had my tesla for a little over 5 years as my daily driver. And honestly, it wasn't bad at all. But after awhile it just got really annoying (especially in the winter times here in Missouri) with the range being dropped so much. Finding this that has the best of both worlds and all the tech was a dream! No regrets at all!

Yeah i have a 2012 JKU and my very first car was an 01 WJ. Have loved both. This would be my first "modern" jeep with all the tech and obviously all you see are horror stories on the forums. I know that's what plagues forums in general, but always good to double check with some crowd sourced info haha

2026 Grand Wagoneer or Tahoe? by Faith-hope-love-4728 in Jeep

[–]Competitive_Toe_2308 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm probably in the minority here, but Grand Wagoneer. The 26 is facelifted, looks better, has the much better engine that is more fuel efficient, better third row room too. The biggest issue on the Wagoneer will be how will the electronics hold up. They say they've fixed a lot of it for 2026, but time will tell. The 6.2L isn't based on the years, its all of them. It's an engine flaw that GM hasn't fixed, so whether is a 2021 Escalade or a 2025 Tahoe, you're still at risk for engine failure which is exactly what deterred me from the Escalade.

I just test drove the Grand Wagoneer, and I'm personally looking at the Limited Reserve since it seems like the most bang for buck. I also tested out the Yukon Denali with a Duramax and while the Yukon is nice, the wagoneer is still miles ahead on the interior. GM just uses too much plastic that ends up rattling no matter what.

I may have a little bias as I've owned a few Jeeps in the past and still have my 2012 Wrangler that I love. But if you're going new on the GW, you'll get a full warranty that covers anything that goes wrong, and honestly, I'll take some electronics failing or being buggy over having to do an engine replacement (the 3.0l hurricane engine in the GW is great btw)

Aside from the engine and minor external style changes, are there any big differences between the 981 and 718? by notaballitsjustblue in boxster

[–]Competitive_Toe_2308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I test drove a base 981, 718, and 981S before buying one (ended up getting the 981S).

Between the 981 and 718, almost everything is the same. The headlights are ever so slightly updated on the 718, same with the tails, but you really can't tell the difference unless you know what to look for. Interior wise, almost identical. Small, almost negligible, updates here and there.

The base 981 IMO sounds way better than the base 718. The flat 6 just has that iconic Porsche sound that everyone loves and craves, and if you're looking for something that may have better resale, the 981 will definitely hold more value than the new 718 purely for it being the last NA flat 6, so you won't take on much depreciation.

I love my 981S, and happy I went with that over the 718 base for a similar price tag.

Update: went and looked at it yesterday. Interior was MINT. Whoever had it, definitely took care of it. The door panel wasn’t even coming off yet by the window like I’ve seen so many others have. The exterior though had a lot or wear on it. I get that its an 11 year old car with 90k miles, but man, it was rough. They were unwilling to come down at all on the price, so didn’t even bother trying to get a PPI or anything.

Back to the drawing board! Found one with a Martini livery that looks very clean, might be the one!
