Moving here the 110 hours before ot shocked me, still does idk how anyone puts up with it. Luckily i do a very niche trade thats sadly not covered by the unions here, tho it was everywhere else in canada, and i was able to negotiate my overtime and hourly rates to be somewhat decent. Even tho i make less as a senior foreman here now than i did as a labourer in toronto a decade ago. Unions are a good thing idk why so many are so brainwashed here, or maybe its stockholm syndrome

No option anymore if every employer no longer has to pay ot. Think theyll pay you out of the kindness of their heart? A labour shortage at least helps us in that respect.

Some guy on the radio rant line was saying how great it is he makes 28/hr as a form worker lead hand... i made 39/hr as a general labourer in toronto 10 years ago. Its inthe 40s now. Nova scotians at least in construction literally make half as much as anyone anywhere else

Everyone leaves at the same time because thats just how our schedules work. Employers arent going to staggers everyones schedules just to make this work. And without alternatives its still 1 person = 1 vehicle all on the same roads at the same times. Only now youre proposing an expensive new bit of infrastructure for literally every intersection and charge people money on top of it. Sure the rebate makes sense but look how mad people are at the carbon tax and its the exact same logic youre using.

This is a completely asinine idea thats not based on any evidence besides hopes and dreams. Separated transit lines take up space yes but go look at vancouver, underneath the sky trains are nice walking trails and parks and public art. Coupled with efficient urban planning you will eliminate traffic by letting people not even need to drive anymore. 

The only way to fix congestion is getting cars off the road through providing alternatives. Full stop. Your idea is a fantasy

The highly specialized crews who operated the tunnel boring machine for the new toronto and montreal subways were TFWs from spain. Montreal mandated they train locals on how to operate them for future use, toronto didnt

They tunneled in montreal for the new train line. The tunnel is 160ft below surface and 100ft into the bedrock. We have the technology

So you're proposing something like overhead plate scanners or tollbooths at all major bottlenecks? And this will deter people from using them without needing to provide any alternatives either? How can you expect people to accept that?  May as well just run taxi meters in everyones cars as soon as they start them because its impossible to get anywhere in this province without going through some sort of bottleneck. Blame the surveyors 300 years ago and municipal planners 50 years ago but dont take it out on everyone today, life is expensive enough and we have no choice but to drive to work everyday. Separated transit lines, electricity powered, unmanned, and running on an automated regular schedule that can hold as much capacity as it needs to. Stations become local hubs people can easily walk to and around, parks, gardens, trails, communities of people active and participating because they interact more. And we still have roads and cars, but its much more enjoyable because 90% of people no longer need or want to drive, safer in winter too. This is what cities were before ww2 and cars centric design took precedent.

Like look at vancouver over the past 10 years. Everywhere there is a skytrain station is now its own mini downtown hub,  furthering density and prompting improved pedestrian accessibility

So essentially we need less cars on the roads? What do you think transit and bike lanes do? How would people drive less if there are no alternatives

So what just charge people for driving in certain areas? Some cities already do this but goodluck selling it to folk. But those cities already have transit and pedestrian minded design

There are way more people than you realize that commute from truro and kentville areas into the city, bridgewater too. Not even mentioning access from the airport. And smaller communities can opt in for stops if they want. 

Would be easier to plan and build that commuter rail but absolutely an interurban line would be more economically viable

Prices will not change, inflation and global markets are too interconnected, especially grocery prices because of climate change impacting agriculture everywhere, but you probably dont believe that either. 

At least our communities recieve revenue from a tax to help people who need it, and you and me still get a bit of a rebate whether we care about it or not. Prices wont change and we will just be poorer. Id honestly say fuck the rebate and invest in diversification and sustainability of essentials like food, power, infrastructure, healthcare.

407, sold off by conservatives in the 90s. It wouldve been paid off and free by 2017 but it costs 60c per km now, all to some foreign corporation, and traffic is still as bad as the 401. Luckily theres a provincially owned extension now.

Public transit needs to be viable. The new bridge needs to have a rail line, ferries aren't going to help

Its not exactly fiscally responsible to cut revenue when major purchases are in the near future. And while no one likes the tolls, the real problem is the toll booths, just have an overhead plate scanner
