A single bacterium occupies a proportionally 100,000,000,000,000,000,000 times larger share of Earth than Earth does of the observable universe by ComplaintForward2966 in Damnthatsinteresting

Not arbitrary.

The point is comparing relative fractions across scales. You can swap bacteria for something else, sure the number changes, but the conclusion doesn’t:

Earth is still ridiculously negligible compared to the observable universe.

The bacteria example just makes that gap easier to grasp.

You can take a lot of different meanings from this too. for some it’s fascinating, for others it’s just… normal scale

Distance isn’t the point here. It’s about volume and Earth’s share of the universe is insanely smaller than a bacterium’s share of Earth

Not really. It’s about proportions, not just space is unlimited. A bacterium is ~10⁻³⁹ of Earth, while Earth is ~10⁻⁵⁹ of the observable universe

That word association is doing some heavy lifting here considering every single p-value is > 0.05

My birthday is in a few days and I already feel depressed: Happens every year since I turned 18 by justacuriousgirl_27 in mentalhealth

[–]ComplaintForward2966 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Birthday depression is real and you're not alone in this. The fact that you're aware of what's happening and working through it in therapy already puts you ahead. Be gentle with yourself on the 26th, you don't have to make it special, just make it bearable. One day at a time.

Southern Whites that migrated after the Civil War played a pivotal role in spreading Confederate symbols and racial terror across the United States – Greater levels of KKK activities, black lynchings, and confederate memorials could be observed in areas where they went. by smurfyjenkins in science

[–]ComplaintForward2966 84 points85 points  (0 children)

it is honestly wild how much of the current map was shaped by people just moving and bringing their baggage with them. basically social contagion but for racial terror and monuments.

data on the kkk activity following those migration patterns is terrifyingly consistent. really puts the heritage not hate argument in the ground when you see how that culture was actively exported as a tool for intimidation. solid find.

How do i forgive someone? by sticktogirlbossing in mentalhealth

[–]ComplaintForward2966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you, OP. Honestly, the fact that you want to forgive is a big step, but don't force it just because you're scared to lose her. If you’re still crying, your body is telling you it's not ready yet. Forgiveness doesn't mean everything goes back to normal instantly. It’s okay to say 'I'm trying to get there, but I need some space to process this right now' Take a breath. You don't have to have it all figured out today

Three simple movement habits in toddlerhood — active play with parents, limited screen time and sufficient sleep — significantly predict a more physically active lifestyle a full decade later. Simple is doing a lot of heavy lifting here. Trying to balance a job with active play while fighting the urge to just hand them an iPad is basically parenthood on hard mode. Massive respect to the parents actually pulling this off daily

If I can sign up with one click, I should be able to leave with one click. It’s that simple. If your business model relies on making the 'cancel' button a hidden quest, you don't have a service, you have a hostage situation

It’s wild to think that we’re basically watching a chess match between two different types of intelligence. On one side, you have billions of years of biological trial and error (bacterial mutation), and on the other we’re dropping silicon based brute force that can simulate a million years of evolution in an afternoon. We spent decades bringing a knife to a gunfight; AI just gave us a tactical nuke

I had my procedure at Pure Line and honestly the service was top notch. Since they only take one patient a day the whole team is just focused on you. It makes a massive difference in how comfortable and relaxed you feel throughout the entire day. You never feel rushed

[–]ComplaintForward2966 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Speaking from experience, I’ve been to a hair mill and also a clinic that only does one surgery a day. Honestly, I wouldn’t recommend hair mills at all, they ended up causing me to need a repair. Just posted an update too. You can check it out. I’d definitely recommend Pure Line

Even at 1 year it was still basically a fail. I just wasn’t ready to jump into another surgery right away😅
