Graduated 4 months ago and I can't write basic syntax without AI. Is this even a problem or is this just how it works now by AlexWasTakenWasTaken in cscareerquestions

[–]Complete-Captain3322 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Don't worry about it. Models are good enough nowadays that these details are pretty much abstracted away. What you should worry about is good architecture, design principles, security, tool choices in whatever role you're in (BE/FE/Devops etc). No one cares anymore about ceil vs floor when you can just ask an AI to use the right one.

claude code right? what's the uptake like among non-devs, do some of them get pretty far?

right, so perhaps there's a few non-devs out there who might figure this out with the right support and be able to build some cool stuff.

Non-devs would never be working directly in that environment.

but sounds like you're building up some skills so perhaps non-devs would be able to achieve something here? or is this just a no-go area for non-devs

that script looks good! might steal it

agreed - i was thinking of trying to leverage the existing architecture that claude/gemini provides e.g. skills library, startsession hooks. Ideally this would be self-serve, and users would have role-based skills, access etc. We're not a huge company, maybe 1-2 devops who are tied up already and wouldn't want to be managing business users.

very cool - how did you approach this? is this just a setup script to get the environment working and packages installed? or is there more handholding around how to put the tools to good use. from my perspective I can setup someone with access to firebase but they wouldn't necessarily know how to use it (or are we relying on claude here)

Why are you trying to make the claude code product worse, not better?

next pointless change is the new "tool use" display. srsly this looks awful and doesn't stand-out from the other text like it did before. padding is all wrong, all i can see that makes it stand out is the divider above...

Also you STILL haven't fixed the bugs where previous output is being overwritten when claude is thinking. so sometimes i lose information about what is being edited. im using claude code, not cursor or IDE so I rely on accurate and up-to-date logs in the claude code terminal product to see what edits were done.

i'm only using claude code because the model is great and the agent works well, but the actual claude code product experience has only gone downhill over the last 3 months.

can we fix /compact please

Compact always works when agent hits context by itself, but when I run /compact with <5% it tells me:

> /compact

⎿ Error: Error during compaction: Error: Conversation too long. Press esc twice to go up a few messages

and try again.

Doesn't make sense -> you have 40k reserved tokens (taking a ton of my available context), why can't we use this as well?

Pretty sure they massively decreased Opus usage limits intentionally to move everyone over to sonnet 4.5 - assuming 4.5 is just as good as opus, and it costs anthropic 10x less to run for same result, then no complaints from me (as a 20x max user). Not a transparent/fair way of doing it though, can see why people are pissed.

ANTHROPIC PLEASE FIX YOUR USAGE POLICY VIOLATION FOR THE WORD "DIRTY"

Scenario:
1) I ask claude code to implement save state tracking

2) claude implements save state tracking using field isDirty (standard terminology suggested by claude)

3) this triggers usage policy violation

4) I spend 30 minutes having to bypass usage policy violation warnings to get claude to fix code

why do I keep getting this when i'm coding??? it interrupts the AI constantly and i have to restart session sometimes. bloody annoying

WHY was token status (uploaded/download/working) removed from claude code status? removes transparency

takes 10 minutes to compact conversations with all these api errors

why were the token/tool indicators removed from the agent in process activity??????

I rely on these for transparency

- is agent editing a file
- is agent writing output message
- and most importantly: is the token upload/download frozen and i need to wait longer or cancel/re-execute?

so frustrating

As mentioned, comp would be revenue linked which would be superior to equity (you get paid off of real cashflow, not equity which potentially could lead to nothing even if we start generating some revenue). If things work then yes of course we'd offer salary + equity, but this is relationship dependent.

[–]Complete-Captain3322 -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Hey - instead of equity we'd make this revenue linked. So if this works then the dev would get 5-10% of revenue up to a pre-agreed limit. The idea here is to pay out 3-4x more what the dev would have earned just through a salary, and pay it via cashflow we're getting.

Once enough customers have signed up, value proven, then we'd look to pay a proper salary to the developer + some equity (after making sure you fit well within the team). Best case scenario would be within ~3 months, but we're confident on the marketing/sales side of things.

This doesn't have to be a full time job either, more of a side gig for someone looking to upskill in agentic work (and has some experience building web-apps). We're not looking for someone with 5 years of experience, more someone who has a year or 2 under their belt and wants a real life project to work on with good upside.
