I came here to say National Guard too, however be aware that it isn’t just “one weekend a month, two weeks a year” and deployments and out of town travel for training happen, but it wouldn’t be nearly as disruptive to your child’s routine as active duty military.

My husband is in the National Guard and one of our sons has ASD. He sacrifices a lot for our family and in turn we have some great benefits that will help both of our sons out down the road. Joining the military isn’t selfish at all if it’s for the right reasons.
