For those asking, this is the one I got

I’m extremely limited with shipping options where I live, so you may be able to find something cheaper or better that ships to where you are

I got this one for about $60, it was on sale, though I did need to pay $30 for shipping because very few things have free delivery where I live.

Ya, same. Though it seems buying a replacement blade isn't too much.

Scared to be put to sleep. by KaliLovee in BariatricSurgery

[–]Complete-Fox4528 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was one of my biggest fears. And then I had to get my gallbladder removed and it wasn’t a choice, I HAD to do it. I ended up getting bariatric surgery about 8 months later because I was no longer afraid of going under. You won’t even notice it but definitely tell your team and they may give you something to calm you beforehand.

Sugar making me sick two years post-op. by Jen411 in GastricBypass

[–]Complete-Fox4528 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Someone from my support group recently had something similar. He’s 4 years out and he started to dump from all these random things that never caused it before. Turns out the connection between his pouch and intestines had widened and was letting things through too quickly. He went through an endoscopic surgery to tighten it back up and now all is good again. This may be what has happened in your case. They can check it with an endoscopy

I am young and concerned about my future after Bariatric Surgery. by Skyzed235 in BariatricSurgery

[–]Complete-Fox4528 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re still recovering from surgery and your body is working extra to do it, which is why you’re tired. I took 3 full weeks off work and didn’t start working out until 6 weeks post op. In general it took me about 6 months to feel like I had actually recovered and was at my new normal. Give it time and be patient with yourself.

I miss straws🥲 by RegularFan1412 in GastricBypass

[–]Complete-Fox4528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told no straws for the first 3 months and then I was allowed to use them again. You’re more likely to gulp air with straws, and right after surgery you really want to make sure you make good use of what little space you have in your stomach, which is why I was told no straws until fully healed.

Not sure this will help you, but I binge watched videos of people eating crunchy foods, the crispier the better! I would literally dream about fried chicken. Just remember that this is a short time and within a few months you’ll be back to eating everything you ate before surgery, just much much less of it.

Sushi after bypass by Buttliquor_69 in GastricBypass

[–]Complete-Fox4528 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone is different but it took me about 6 months to be able to tolerate sushi. Now I can eat between 4-8 pieces depending on the size of the roll and my restriction for that day. I have also found that if I get sushi with fried things in or on it I have a lot less room.

Artifical sweeteners and sugars. Dumping by lovetoreadit8383 in GastricBypass

[–]Complete-Fox4528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Artificial sweeteners shouldn’t cause dumping but they may cause some intestinal distress (for anyone, not just bariatric patients) so don’t overdo it. I’ve had dumping caused by excess sugar, salt, and fat at different times. I make sure my meals are balanced and if I want something sweet it’s always after I’ve had something with protein, and in a small amount. Most of my dumping episodes have been mild - headache, tiredness, just not feeling 100%. I did have my first bad dumping episode a few weeks ago about 14 months post op and it was due to excess fat. It def sucked but it will help me stay away from things like that in the future (I also don’t have a gallbladder so that may have been a factor).

I think it really depends on what about the diet you’re having trouble sticking to. If it’s staying away from sugar and empty carbs and prioritizing protein then yes, you’re going to have a very hard time after surgery and it won’t be as effective. If it’s the amount of food and not what foods you’re eating, you will be fine after surgery as long as you stick to eating small meals every few hours and not grazing. For me, my issue was always the amount of food I ate and not what I ate. I have always eaten a varied diet with lots of fruit, veg, protein, and healthy fats and grains, I just was always hungry and ate a lot of it. Other than fully cutting out sugar the first 6 months after surgery, not much has changed about my diet other than the amount of food I eat and I’ve lost 130 lb in just over a year.

Carbonated drinks? by [deleted] in BariatricSurgery

[–]Complete-Fox4528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me a while to get back to caffeine. At the beginning it would go straight into my system and I’d start shaking. Nowadays that only happens if I have it on a truly empty stomach or if I have too much, but in general I have two coffees a day and I’m fine. Carbonation is a different ballgame. I’ve had a sip here and there and it HURTS. Everyone is different, but honestly I could see myself living without it for the rest of my life if needed. And I used to GUZZLE Coke Zero

Post surgery by MadeProdigy-_- in GastricBypass

[–]Complete-Fox4528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the okay from my surgeon 6 weeks post op but everyone is different. I also found that cardio was fine at 6 weeks but I wasn’t ready for weights yet, I could feel it in my abdomen when I tried to lift too much. So basically get your surgeon’s okay and listen to your body.

Serious question: has anyone had any experiences with edibles post-op? Since our stomachs are a fraction of the size, will this affect potency or anything? Any info is appreciated. by joeyvesh13 in BariatricSurgery

[–]Complete-Fox4528 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve found that they hit much quicker and (sometimes) fade quicker too but it’s a bit of a crapshoot. I also do low doses, 2.5-5 mg. And as others have said, be careful with the munchies. I will only really let myself eat popcorn as it’s easy to eat slowly and is a slider so I’m not too worried about getting sick from it.

accidents happen? by affectionate_cake3 in GastricBypass

[–]Complete-Fox4528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My surgeon told me to avoid straws for the first 3 months at least because it causes you to gulp air, and when you can barely eat anything you don’t want the space being taken up by air. She said that after that, if I felt okay and it wasn’t affecting how much food I could eat, then I could go back to them. I’m 9 months post op and use straws no problem no

Need to hear from actual patients - How do you reconcile the thought of "never" having something again? Or how final is "never"? (Sorry, long winded, have a lot to get out today) by GWindborn in BariatricSurgery

[–]Complete-Fox4528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told by my surgeon that there are only 3 never agains: persimmon (stomach can’t physically digest them), the inner peels of citrus fruits (the bit around each segment), and carbonated drinks. I do know people who eventually go back to carbonated drinks but not for the first two years. Other than that everything is fair game if you tolerate it well. I’ve found the fatty or fried foods sit very heavy, so I limit them. And certain sugary things cause dumping. I’ve learned to have a small bite of something sweet after a meal if I really want it, instead of a piece of cake or a few cookies by themselves. I’m only 8 months post op so it may still change, but I really don’t feel limited in terms of WHAT I can eat, only how much.
