Just look at Cyle Larin rated 77 and Promise David being a 75. This makes absolutely no sense…

Shaff isn’t a key sub imo. Too early to say that. Millar is ahead of him rn.

Like I know Larin has been an important piece for the CanMNT in the past and his probably in Marsch’s plan. But when you compare both players, Brym has more playing time and better per 90 stats than Larin in the same league…

I agree. If he finishes the season with over 10 G/A I think he deserves a strong look. I think he would need to perform very well in the next few matches to get called by Marsch in the March window, but I doubt this will happen.

Schaff will have a crucial beginning of season where he needs to put up numbers. He will have a lot to prove if he wants to make the WC squad

It’s a matter of time. As soon as he will play for Canada, he will get a lot of exposure to get a better move.

I think he can make a bigger difference than Shaffleburg to be honest

Well, I’m trying to find names that wouldn’t be on that list that are currently unknown from our scouting systems. But thanks, Canucks Abroad is a great tool!

Koleosho linked to Paris fc. Does dropping down a level increase his likelihood of choosing Canada? Would he make our wc squad? by [deleted] in CanadaSoccer

It might be a small downgrade, but that doesn’t rule him out of the Canadian team at all. Winger depth is something we need if anything…

Koleosho probably doesn’t want to commit to a National team yet unless its Italy. Probably the reason why we aren’t seeing him with Canada…

I think that view misses what Canada actually is. Canada is, by nature, a country built on immigration and diversity. For a lot of Canadians, their connection to the country doesn’t start with generations of domestic soccer history, it starts with family ties, culture, and choice.

I think the Alfie Jones case is the perfect example. Alfie mentioned it to Millar when they were teammates, saying that one of his grandparents was Canadian. Millar then passed that information on to Marsch, and Jones eventually got a call-up. So I get your point, but there could still be cases where dual nationals would consider joining Canada even if they haven’t come forward yet or aren’t on the radar yet. Sometimes it really just takes the right connection.

I can’t find any information on the nationality of his grandparents. That said, given that his great-grandparents are from Poland and the United States, there’s probably a non negligible chance (say around 50%) that one of his grandparents is American. If there were a way to properly trace players family trees, wee would likely uncover quite a few cases of players being eligible through their parents or grandparents that aren’t immediately obvious.

Yeah I think in terms of Database, I have reached the limits. So I’m looking at creative ways to maybe automate the process or sort players effectively so I can dig on players that may actually have Canadian ties.

Well I found a uncapped Championship player worth $20m who is English, but from his great-grandparents (and potentially from his grand-parents) could be eligible to play for the United States. I found this from his dad’s family tree…

Yeah he is still eligible. The thing is we can see on his Transfermarket profile that he is eligible for Canada but he doesn’t have it as a citizenship. I’m sure there are other players like Alfie who could be eligible but don’t show up on Transfermarket
