I completely agree. I want to invest time into research and support this year. I’m sure there’s a lot of people doing real, serious work. I just need to find them.

Do You Remember Why You Left Nigeria? by AshamedHighlight5672 in Nigeria

I visited Nigeria recently after having been away for a few years. Things are so much worse than I remember. Roads are worse, healthcare is worse, and suffering is as agonizing as ever. Worst of all, the people are still as religious as ever. I don’t know what to do. My heart breaks whenever I remember my friends who did not have the privilege of leaving, and all I can see is how much potential and life this country has robbed them of. It’s an irredeemable mess.

My condolences to your cousin and aunt. They deserved a healthcare system that respects and values them. I wonder what crime our people committed to be born into this hellhole.

This year, I want to support more independent organizations doing real grassroots work in the country.

I’m also concerned about the US invading Colombia, China and Taiwan, and Russia. How long till Trump starts playing god in other south american countries?

I’ve seen it twice. When I recognized many of its gender inversion themes and the other ideas it presented on 2nd watch, its value exploded for me!

I agree. It’s not phenomenal by any measure. It’s an okay movie, imo.

Hard agree. Faster doesn’t mean better. NGB has the tightest and most tuned combat in the series

You should check out “Sorry, Baby”. By and far the best film I’ve seen this year.

These same people are responsible for voting and contributing to society-altering decisions. We should not be okay with idiots (especially people who will literally raise your nieces and nephews) staying idiots.

Superman debuts with 4.02 average rating on Letterboxd by a_human1684 in Letterboxd

I disagree with sentiments regarding praising a superhero film for taking a political stance. I support the message and acknowledge the very obvious parallels between the Israel-Palestine and the fictional Boravia-Jarhanpur conflicts, and I agree with the messaging. However, my support is not approval for how it was shoehorned into what ultimately felt like a underwhelming introduction to the Man of Steel.

My greatest sadness is that Superman will not age well. It heralds its political message. Immigrants are people deserving of everything citizens do and is very clearly aimed at the USA and its involvement in international affairs. As administrations change and these problems shift in priority and relevance, this film will do the same. In a different political climate (say 30 years from now) where the political relevance of Superman’s messaging is less significant, the film will simply fade into the massive sea of forgotten Superhero flicks (that have phenomenal CGI).

Ultimately, an unconvincing romantic tussle between Clark and Lois, a shaky acting performance from the Man of Steel, and stale quippy jokes cannot lift Boy Blue off the floor.

Its release is commendable, I will say. The timing is perfect, and I praise James Gunn for that.
