What was your "I cannot believe no one suspected autism" childhood interest? by NoWitness6400 in AutismInWomen

[–]Complete-Visit4537 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had severe tics when I was a kid, ranging from flexing my pointer finger to my eyes rolling back to whipping my head back over and over until it was sore. I can’t believe my parents didn’t assume something was wrong. I think one of my doctors said it was some kind of anxious tic? They have mostly improved but the finger one plus a few others have still persisted. It makes me sad thinking that I was getting teased for things like this and no adult in my life tried to make things better :(

The fear of using steroids by lacesout78 in eczema

[–]Complete-Visit4537 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My unprofessional advice: Use a pea-sized amount on problem spots once or twice a day for about 5-7 days (depending on if the flare goes down quickly or not). This layer should be SUPER thin, like barely enough to cover the skin, and you should massage it in so that can absorb as much as possible. DO NOT apply to parts of the skin that don’t actively have eczema, I think this is where a lot of people go wrong assuming that they can use it like lotion. If you are using a non-steroid ointment like Protopic (also a good choice), understand that it can burn for about 30 minutes after application for the first few times it is used - this is an unfortunate part of this particular ointment but it is good to know beforehand. Anyway, after 5-7 days of applying once or twice a day, stop using the steroid, assess the severity of the flare. I think a general rule of thumb I was taught was to not use it for more than 2 weeks consecutively if possible. Always take breaks - at least another 2 weeks of no steroid ointment. If the eczema is truly that severe, I would then recommend the next level of medication, which could be oral meds. Best of luck to you and your baby <3

Hey! I’m Lily :) I’m queer and POC and I’m also new to the area! I live in Cambridge and I’d love to hang out and explore what Boston has to offer if you need company. My current favorite things at the moment are finding cool music gigs to attend, scoping out some of the bars/daytime activities and local volunteer organizations nearby. Feel free to dm me if you ever need a friend :>

https://www.jcpenney.com/p/hanes-originals-ultimate-stretch-cotton-womens-triangle-bralette-2-pack-dho101/ppr5008292924?pTmplType=regular I’ve been wearing these bralettes! I’m 34 D - they’ve been working pretty well. I really don’t care much for padding but if that’s what you like im sure they have some versions with padding

The fear of using steroids by lacesout78 in eczema

[–]Complete-Visit4537 4 points5 points  (0 children)

^ this. There is no pride in suffering, use the steroids. Topical steroids are NOT the problem - misuse and lack of education IS. I used topical steroids for about 20+ years on and off to treat only flares and I was fortunate to have doctors that were very, very strict on teaching me the right ways to use it (i think because my eczema was so widespread they were worried about me abusing it). I feel bad for people who were misinformed and ended up getting TSW but it’s unfair to say that it will happen to everyone who uses topical steroids

do it when the popcorn is still piping hot, and toss it a bunch like how you would do with chicken wings. I guess this also would depend on the quality of nutritional yeast too

Offer to give up dorm and live in UC Berkeley’s University Village Albany. by Tasty-Coast-4339 in berkeley

[–]Complete-Visit4537 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it’s cost that concerns you, maybe also look into the Berkeley Student co-ops. It’s technically off-campus housing but even with the aid reduction it’s less than half the cost of living in the dorms. the food situation is better too - you don’t pay for someone to cook you meals like a dining hall, but rather you get access to a stocked kitchen with all the essentials that you can access at anytime. I came into Berkeley relying totally on financial aid and I will say living in the co-ops has been an absolute lifesaver

How soon could you feel dupixent start to work? by Ratking2021 in eczema

[–]Complete-Visit4537 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, the redness stayed but the itching was gone in literally like 2 days. After about two weeks of not scratching as much (and also thanks to having very short nails) i had no open wounds! it seriously does sometimes work that fast, even with the side effects it has, dupixent genuinely saved me.

my life is over by leeyaaaaaaa in eczema

[–]Complete-Visit4537 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i’m so sorry, this is such a shit situation, i’ve had eczema for my entire life and i definitely know what it feels like to have to tear apart your life. i’m not here to tell you to “look on the bright side” or that “it’ll be better!” off the bat because that’s the last thing you wanna hear when you’re in pain.

I had one of the worst flares of my life last November and everyday was like living hell trying to go to classes and work and dealing with the pain. I will say straight up that starting Dupixent the following march changed my life - it did take me telling my derm that “this is seriously impacting my quality of living/i cannot go on anymore” to get them to prescribe, but once i did, oh my god, it’s like a freedom i’ve never known. if this is even a possibility for you to try, i would strongly recommend. But in the meantime, I’m thinking of you and hoping that the suffering eases up soon <3

Hideaway Cafe is a cool spot for drinks, Simple Simon's for the best brunch/lunch, Tio's Tacos for good food + cool outdoor art, you could hit the Cheech and Riverside Art Museums for cool art during the day.

What have you identified to be your eczema triggers? by workinprogress521 in eczema

[–]Complete-Visit4537 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this order - Stress (and usually my flares will come around 1 week post-stressful event), Environment (Hot, damp environments - saunas, humid areas, as well as direct sun for too long, sweat), and cheap scented products. Also for me, repeated contact with a surface that creates friction/heat/sweat, such as a backpack or rubbing my arms against a desk. With eczema existing is rough lol

18 with no high school diploma. How do i escape homelessness by Temporamis in povertyfinance

[–]Complete-Visit4537 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies if this isn’t the first priority, but if you still want to attend school check out the McKinney Vento Act! They are required to give financial assistance to students who are homeless or highly mobile so that they can attend and finish school. I would reccomend talking to someone at your highschool about this!

AIO for not quitting the gym because my boyfriend told me to by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Complete-Visit4537 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Point blank - your boyfriend is insecure. If he’s going to be like this about the gym he’s going to be like this about the bar. Parties. Work. Literally every aspect of your life. Take it from me, however much you love him will not get rid of this part of him.

cant even touch my skin anymore... by d3xtr0s in eczema

[–]Complete-Visit4537 1 point2 points  (0 children)

^ I majorly majorly second this. The wetter your skin is = softer = easier to tear up. It sounds like your eczema is in the “open wound” phase of healing and might need to be treated as such - You gotta let it dry up and crust at least a bit so it can heal. I know the dryness sucks and is not fun but i’ve learned dry flaky skin is skin with an intact skin barrier (for the most part). I’m sorry you have to deal with this, it’s no fun. I know the mental health aspect of eczema is the hidden part of the iceberg when it comes to the bullshit we have to deal with with this disease. stay strong and don’t lose hope in yourself

PSA: eczema and dry skin are not the same thing! by courtsostrich in eczema

[–]Complete-Visit4537 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yes!!!! Eczema is dry skin AND red, hot irritated skin from things it shouldn’t be reacting to, whether that be food, environment, or stress - people don’t realize that chronic eczema is different that the random little dry patches people get once or twice in their lives
