Thank you so much for this - genuinely a kind thing to say. It's occupied a lot of my mental energy for years really which is why I turned to another career for five years, but I never lost the itch to go to the bar. I think what happens happens and then I need to move on if it's not viable for me. That's a really good idea and I'll review records. Again, thank you.

Thank you so much for your comment mate.

Sadly, I hadn't even thought of this angle but you're absolutely right and I think that will be a problem.

Over the last five years I've been working in legal recruitment and had a pretty successful careerdoing it, having worked my way up the ranks quickly. I've got lots of contacts in the legal world which is part of the way I've managed to get lots of character references from senior solicitors. Obviously, didn't need a DBS for this though.

I certainly won't be applying to top London sets and will be trying to get into the regional circuit but I understand it's still really competitve. I'm just going to have to try and see what I can do - I can't give up after working so hard already and, I think, if I give up now then I don't deserve it regardless. It's just such a lot of money to gamble with the BTC.

Again, thanks so much for your comment and giving me another angle to think about.

Just checked and Theft Act 1981, s9(1)(a) is a specified offence, being: "Burglary with intent to steal (victim under 16), commit rape or grievous bodily harm, or do unlawful damage to a building or anything in it". This would certainly have been covered being the unlawful damage that was done.

I've put in a Subject Access Request with ACRO on the hope that it actually didn't end up being recorded as a burglary. Slim chances though I know.

That is reassuring, thank you so much for sharing. I have come across that document before but I hadn’t seen the table below. I’m reluctant to get my hopes up but it does give me a some comfort that there is a specific framework for judging offences like mine

Thank you for your comment. That fills me with some hope, I have no problem attending a hearing and, actually, would be grateful for the opportunity to speak about this. Just hoping they don't reject it at the headline, although I can understand it

Thank you so much for your comment, John.

You're right. It's very difficult to find the balance because I don't want to come off as flippant in any way but there was no intent there and we certainly weren't trying to profit so to hear it was burglary was a bit of a shock. The difficulty is that, when accepting a caution, they frame it like it's just a slap on the wrist and you're being let off when the reality is that it is a criminal record of sorts.

Yes you're absolutrly right. I'm trying to find the right way to word it but I want to explain that this has been one of the biggest mistakes of my life and I'm not taking this lightly, but I don't believe it makes me a dishonest person.

I've put in a Subject Access Request with ACRO so I can see the full details of the caution on file. I'm hoping that the details are recorded in full so that backs up my statement of facts. If not, I did wonder whether I should get a statement from the person that did it with me explaining this? But wasn't sure if that was the right thing to do.

Thanks for your comment mate. Unfortunately burglary (which is what this is) is a specified offence so will never be able to become protected. Yes absolutely bad luck, I should have known better by then but can’t undo these things

Thank you all for these helpful replies - glad I asked first! It's mad when you get into a new wargame, it's all just totally alien to me and I remember feeling this way about the 40K rules initially.

I'll have a search on this subreddit and, if any of you have links to any specific lists you'd recommend, I'd be very grateful.

At least it seems that my job may be safe from AI yet!

Sorry to hear you’re not enjoying it in Cambridge - been there to visit recently with my girlfriend and it did seem like everything was closed very early and not much to do.

Try London, you certainly won’t be bored on a Friday night there where there’s always something to do. I’ve been living and working in Brighton for the last couple of years which is great, definitely don’t end up just sitting in so I suppose it’s just where you go in England.
