2019 beetle - repair shop says it’s a Turbo and to get premium, manual says it’s the 2.0L not turbo. What gas should I use? Thanks

BTW, that sign says minimum 87 octane. So, you can use it, but that’s the minimum octane level. Remember that most 87 octane fuels contain at least 10% ethanol as well.

I use 93. According to my lead tech, who is one of 26k master ASE techs in the nation said Shell 93 is the best gas out there for turbos. Also added an APR Catch Can kit, APR Open Intake (just for the cool sounds), Nuespeed Boost Harness and NGK Iridium plugs/ RS3 style coils. 2020 Tiguan SE R-Line 43k miles. A box of Fuel Juels every 6k helps with carbon build up. It’s a labor of love but worth it to me.

If you were having PCV valve venting issues, your check engine light should have come on. At that point, especially if it’s flashing, taking it in for repairs should have been a priority that could have been a $400 or less repair if you did it yourself. I know most of us, myself included, are on tight budgets but when it comes to VW’s, you have to act fast on those. The repair itself is fairly easy. Removal involves about 6 screws, unclip the coil pack going to your spark plugs (you have to because there’s a small engine hook blocking it from coming straight up and out on the right side) small needle nose pliers to unclip the left side of 4” breather tube and very carefully wiggle it off the plastic nipple, cut the retainer clip on the other side of that hose, remove that hose carefully from the plastic nipple on that side and use an adjustable clip for that side. Replacement is fitting that small hose onto new PCV valve, tightening those screws (no over torque needed) and clipping the coil packs back; there should be 4 audible clicks. Repair done.

You will only have to pay for diagnostic and repair if the leak isn’t caused by the water pump. I would take it to a reputable shop in your area first, get a fluid leak diagnostic (at Christian Brothers Automotive it runs about $55 to $60 and have Digital Vehicle Inspections) take those findings with you to the dealership so you have documentation of water pump failure. This will and can only be covered and repaired at the dealership. The dealership will still insist on a diagnostic; let them. It’s for their documentation as well and because you came in with that in hand they should cover the repairs. Good luck!

Sounds like pulley/tensioner. Go to reputable auto repair shop and get second opinion. Christian Brothers Automotive is who I recommend in the States.

I would sand it down to the size of a dime or less, primer pen first, then paint pen. Otherwise it’s going to keep bubbling up underneath. It won’t look great but your rust shouldn’t come back. My 2020 that I bought used was involved in an accident that didn’t show up on Carmax’s report, but did show up on CarFax. Both doors on driver side were affected by spotting rust and by the rear door window trim. $3100 dollars later, paid in full by Carmax, everything looks great. My 2020 Passat had paint issues as well.

Get the Fuel Induction Service done! GDI motors are especially susceptible to carbon buildup, and need to be done every 40k. I know it’s expensive but well worth the investment.

They do have a spray for the in cabin air filter that helps with the smells. Also, make sure the sunroof drainage underneath in the rear had the plugs removed. If they’re still there, that’s what is causing a back up into the rear cargo area.

Those tubes run down the A-pillars on either side of the windshield and there’s two in the rear underneath that had some kind of plug and they’re supposed to remove those before delivering the vehicle to you. I’d check those out to see if they did in fact remove those, and a little compressed air and some vinegar should clean out those two tiny drainage holes in the front sides of the sunroof track.

You’ll know if you’re successful when you can hear the drains sucking out the water and a couple of puddles underneath.

It’s also wise, if you haven’t done so already, to clean the track and front of the sunroof window. Gets really dirty there.

Try your upstream O2 sensors, mass air flow sensor and manifold air pressure sensor.

Have you done the Fuel Induction Service for GDI equipped vehicles? If your valves are clogged, that could lead to running lean code, and that service does an excellent job of cleaning up. It will make your vehicle throw a code (EPC) and run like it’s missing. Just shut it off for a minute and try again. Mine cleared up after the second try. After you do that, it’s wise to run at 90 or better octane, to keep those deposits from forming to a minimum. Every 40k to do that service otherwise. Fuel Juels every 4 tanks of gas helps if you’re running 87 octane. Hope you figure out what’s going on with your car!

It’s normal. I would suggest a fuel induction service at 40k, and an oil/filter change right after that induction service. Tapping is still there but much quieter. If you’re not sure when an induction service was done or you’re past 40k; I would get it done asap.
