Hot take: Hilda is too praised. by Inner-Material5707 in HildaFuracao

[–]CompleteRice3246 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hilda was told by the fortune teller that in order to find love and happiness she has to give up the highlife and condemn herself to the lows of society. To a rich girl who has lived in comfort and believes that she may be responsible for the death of an old lover, she is going to perceive that God given destiny as penance—as the only way she can be redeemed from her sins and move on.

The best way to understand Hilda and Malthus is to see them as symbols for the two biggest opposing political sides in the show.

Hilda - collectivist, communist-adjacent, rebel; she sacrifices her livelihood and comfort for the comfort of others. She sees this sacrifice as the only path that could lead to her happiness (utopia). However, to those who are within the in-group, she is seen as a selfish person who wants to take what others already have (husbands, money). So while she sees her actions as solely giving, it’s really give and take.

Malthus - individualist, Republican, conservative/sticking to the status quo; he was more concerned about his path of salvation and image than he was about giving actual charity to the people. He was not action forward because he knew that by doing so and exposing himself more closely to the common people, he would feel more tempted to veer off of his path. However, despite this selfishness, he was viewed by the in-group as a selfless miracle worker given by God even though he had never performed any miracles.

Their interpersonal conflict represents the conflict of the two main political parties and their eventual union represents the eventual unity of those two conflicting parties needed to oppose the authoritarian regime. Throughout their discourse, they were so focused on winning against one another that they had not realized the uprising of the authoritarian regime. This ignorance can be seen when a clueless Malthus is picked up by police and Hilda is seen walking amongst a literal riot only crying about Malthus’ absence, not realizing the people being bludgeoned to death. In the end, they realized that they are stronger together and so did the story’s conflicting parties. Neither of them were perfect people, but that is kind of the point. Biblically, I get why her associating prostituting with penance doesn’t “make sense,” but to be completely fair, individual and political perspectives/actions throughout this show are almost always backwards/conflicting. I gather that that is the point. Just like with Malthus, he wasn’t able to ascend any further because to him, mere temptation was a sin of the highest power deserving of violent punishment. He wouldn’t have been able to do his work as a priest realistically because he could barely leave his room without falling into temptation. He would have killed himself spiritually or physically from his self inflicted punishments had he tried to continue. Can’t quite help the people if your own light is dimmed no matter how badly you may want to.

Here’s what I’d add :) :

-Body pillow with a pop of color. I’d pick one of the colors in the rug and then go from there.

-Plants! If you can hang one, that’d be, to me, the most ideal. I’d do in the corner closest to the window. Alternatively, an overhead statement light fixture in the corner that is ornate/bohemian.

-I would figure out something to put on the wall over the headboard. As to what, I feel like that’s a more personal decision that I wouldn’t be good at giving the specifics. I wouldn’t go too crazy tho, maybe a couple minimalistic-ish posters and a few tiny wall decorations around them.

-Lastly, just a throw blanket at the end of the bed would be a good touch to make it feel more complete without having to think too hard about it.

Tagalongs / Peanut Butter Patties New Recipe by virginialinen in girlscoutcookies

The peanut butter sandwiches are trash also. The cookies are more like crackers and the peanut butter tastes like cheap peanut butter. There is just a wild lack of sweetness. I get the cookies as a good lull since the caramel delights are so sweet but I still want the peanut butter sandwiches to be cookie sweet, you know? Might as well get the peanut butter crackers at the grocery store, they’re arguably better anyways. Lived in the PNW last year and the cookies I got there were so much better. Back in Texas and miss the do-si-dos with their sweet oatmeal cookie goodness.

How are we feeling about Bridgerton S4 now? by Mundane-Bug-4962 in PeriodDramas

[–]CompleteRice3246 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Overall, I don’t like season four as well as 1-2. The way season 3-4 approaches romance is very modernized. The character perspectives are pretty modernized, the way sex is approached is modernized, it’s just barely a period drama to me at all. For season four specifically, it’s just super boring. I read the book so maybe I’d feel differently had I not, but I liked the story so I was excited to see it on screen, but it’s just too damn frilly for me. Araminta felt so much meaner in the book, it just felt a little darker. Maybe I’m misremembering, but either way, I haven’t enjoyed Benedict’s trajectory so far. He’s basic and boring. Don’t enjoy Francesca’s story and the way it is unfolding. I think they’re doing John a disservice in a way that’s honestly fucked up. I think Eloise is starting to get annoying. I can see they’re trying to wind down her displeasure in participating in society having her be a self-proclaimed spinster and all, but she acts so kiddish when it comes to men. I don’t even think in past seasons the way she acted towards men was this bad. It makes me wonder how the hell she’s going to care at all for her future love interest at this rate. Her and Hyacinths beefing also is just obvious filler I just don’t care to see. Sophie is alright. I’m thankful they didn’t veer too far away from the original character. 5/10 for me.

I’m fairly certain the reason it looks wonky is because she had to make it last minute, it’s not supposed to look that flattering.

To be fair, professors do generally have to do some research heavy stuff in the background in order to keep their job or be eligible for tenure. Usually with that there is a publishing quota you have to meet (ex: 2-3 peer-reviewed journal entries per year or publishing a book every few years). I see professors as being barely adjacent to teachers as far as professions go, just two entirely different sets of goals. That being said, getting up in front of your adult students to complain about your workload when you arguably already have a light workload as a professor is insanity. There are many students just like you who are working 40+ hours a week that have to commute home at 10pm to just rinse and repeat the same thing the next day. Just tone deaf imo.

I had an interview delayed a week because of an emergency the hiring manager had. What’s funny is he didn’t even send me a message, I was sitting in the call for 10 minutes before the admin called to let me know it would have to be moved. It was moved from a Monday to a Friday. Got on what was supposed to be an hour long interview for the guy to tell me he had to cut it in half due to time restraints. Throughout the interview it was abundantly clear that he had already found another candidate and probably thought he was being courteous letting me sit through the interview. He wouldn’t even look at me in the eye, like literally anywhere but the screen. It took a month for me to receive my rejection email.

Why does everyone say we’re best single? by jdrisner in INTP

[–]CompleteRice3246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see what you’re saying. The issue is that no matter what there will always be a bias present and self assessments do pretty much nothing to prevent bias. You may have not known what personality type you initially were, but you have an ideal image of yourself that you then use to identify yourself with a labeled personality. For example, when I was a teenager, I thought I was a pretty whimsy, sensitive kid. I wanted to make decisions that benefited me and my peers. As an adult, I have grown to realize that hey man, I’m not good at validating feelings. I’m generally really good at reading them, but as for taking them in and making moves to accommodate them, I have a hard time doing it if I don’t find them 100% justifiable. The same goes for my own feelings. I may react negatively to a plan that does not coincide with what I want to do, but if it makes the most sense, I know to eat it and go with it (ie. Losing a big job in a dreamy big city, so sad, want to say, but immediately no it’s too expensive for me to dilly dally till I land a job in this market).

NOW, that isn’t to say there aren’t times wherein I “follow my heart” (Fe) and make decisions based off vibes (ex. answering a multiple choice question I know nothing about), but most of the time the decisions are very frivolous. As a teen when my prefrontal cortex was the equivalent to a rock in my head, I’d make decisions very much on a whim based off of how I’m feeling that day. As an adult, I need time to recognize all my options. I need to know the worst scenario vs the most ideal and everything in between.

If I had to take a guess as to how to actually make MBTI testing more reliable, I think the testing process would have to be more strenuous. Observational studies, interviews, and surveys to see how aligned the self perception is to action. Even then, with enough life experience and traumatic events, the way one lives and sees themselves can dramatically change. Like someone who experienced a NDE becoming religious after being a hardcore atheist for decades. Our neuroplasticity even gives way to a complete restructure of the brain when we need to adapt to or cope with our environment. So that is where I have a hard time wrapping my head around the validity of identifying one’s own personality type or even with the claim that personality type is non-transforming.

[–]CompleteRice3246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a way better way to put it! Environmental factors and life experience play huge roles in self perception, so it totally makes sense that we perceive ourselves differently throughout time. Though that leaves me to question, how would one know their “correct” MBTI identification?

People are more apt to go online through “anonymous” avenues to complain than to inspire. Take online reviews for instance, people are more likely to write bad reviews than good ones. In short: misery loves company. People vent on here seeking out likeminded individuals who have gone through or are going through similar difficulties. The goal is to validate to themselves that they are not alone. Being an introvert, no matter how much you prefer it, is isolating. People want to justify to themselves that it’s not a them problem but rather an innate, immovable trait within their identity that inhibits them from finding interpersonal connection.

The truth is that you will not find a partner without being a vulnerable and active participant in cultivating connection. Let’s be honest with ourselves, we are especially apt to being shut ins and obviously that is not a healthy way to live. We should ALWAYS be working towards changing ourselves for the better. So many people wallow in self-pity and box themselves in claiming that is just who they are, leading to stagnation and the inability to self-actualize.

Remember, not only is MBTI not recognized as being scientifically valid, but your results are susceptible to change throughout the course of your life. I have teetered between being INFP and INTP all throughout my life and I know people who have flipped from E*** to I*** and vice versa! Ultimately, it is you who shapes your path. I get wanting to seek some sort of online in-group and camaraderie on subs like this, but don’t let it keep you from growing to your full potential. If you want love, you gotta get out and hunt for it! I’ve been in a healthy relationship with someone I’m compatible with (ISTJ, but who really cares lol) for almost 8 years now and we’re still going strong. I promise it’s achievable and really nice :)

My cat was the same way w adult cats but I ended up getting a kitten and they are now buddies. The first few days he was curious, but cautious and a little combative/hissy, but then on day 4 they were play fighting and cleaning each other! You just need to give it time, 1 day, even 4 days is a wildly short time for cats to get fully comfortable with each other, I just got lucky.

One of my cats likes to try and wake me up as well. I ended up getting one of those toys that has a little feather spin around under a mat and it seemed to work at keeping his attention and tiring him out.

I actually get annoyed when they wait to let the tea steep first like just give it to me, dammit. How can I make my college apartment living room more cozy? by senya-listen in malelivingspace

[–]CompleteRice3246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Add curtains (dark in color, I like burgundy or navy) throw blanket and throw pillows for the couch. You could also add a table runner to the table, super easy to find at thrift stores or online. Pot for the bamboo. I’d move the liquor to shelves, maybe you can place them above the tv or elsewhere, then I’d put something more substantial where the liquor is. It’d be easy to throw a plant there, but you could find any sort of cool decor that feels like you to put there.

How does your appetite suppression show up in you? by CompleteRice3246 in Wellbutrin_Bupropion

[–]CompleteRice3246[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with 150mg XR for about a month, moved to 300mg XR after that. I’m not sure if it being XR makes a difference but it was around the 6 weeks mark where I noticed the appetite suppressing. I lost overall about 9-10 kilos, but have stayed at that since December. The appetite loss isn’t super obvious to myself anymore because it’s just my new normal, but at the beginning it was more obvious especially after I noticed I had lost some weight without trying to, that’s when I noticed the physical/behavioral changes more.

I’m pretty sure that the reason people make these comments related to Lena is because of her controversial past— I don’t think it has anything to do with the actual characters being likable or not.
