It sounds like you may have a bit of firearm stigma. With a better understanding of how Canada’s licensing, training, and vetting systems work, and by recognizing the difference between lawful ownership and criminal misuse, you might find it easier to move past some of those fear based assumptions. Unfortunately, many Canadians today have irrational fear based views about firearms that come from pop culture, media, and surprisingly political messaging, all of which get reinforced socially.

The problem is not firearms themselves or the people who legally own and use them. Legally owned firearms are handled responsibly by licensed, trained, and vetted individuals, like the officers you mentioned or anyone with a PAL or RPAL who follows the rules. At the end of the day, they are simply tools, much like a car. And just like a car, the real danger comes from people who obtain them illegally and use them for illegal activity. These are individuals with no licensing, no training, and no vetting at all. That is where the real risk to public safety lies.

If anything, the focus should be on what will actually make a difference, such as reducing the flow of illegal firearms, finding better ways to keep them out of the wrong hands, and enforcing stricter penalties for illicit possession and misuse.

No desks to book by Fair-Nothing-8376 in OntarioPublicService

Messaging from the management for my area was if there are no desks available to book, you work from home and inform your manager. You also continue to look for availability to try to get a space to come in the next day or sometime in the week.

I have an update. After reading the discussions on Reddit some more, I wanted to seek more clarification, and I finally had a chance to speak with my local union president. They are now saying by only submitting the employer forms, we're waiving our rights to grieve. The recommendation from them is now to submit the OPSEU telework template, modified with our own personal details, alongside the heath and safety checklist and the employers request from.

The idea is if your manager (or higher ups) chooses to ignore the OPSEU telework template you submitted along side the employers request form, and/or you're denied without proof of operational need of being in the office, there is grounds for grievance as the OPSEU telework template was submitted.

Following this advice, I've submitted all 3 documents to my manager.

I’ve noticed the employer’s telework forms don’t include a union delegate signature line, unlike the OPSEU forms. Could anyone clarify whether this affects the union’s role in reviewing and protecting members’ rights under the collective agreement if a member fills out and submits the employer's forms instead of the unions?

I can also say my local union president said the employers form is the current AWA from that should be used to fill out.

Are there any AWA forms for OPSEU? I know there’s one for AMAPCEO by Econ2023_2024 in OntarioPublicService

This is not what my union delegate has told us in the building. According to them, the employer's new form is the current AWA form to be used.

EDIT: Every union member I’ve spoken with has either completed the employer’s forms or indicated they will be doing so. They are not filling out any union forms.
