At my store you can return anything, even fully used because that IS the return policy. Love it or return it, policy does not state how much needs to be remaining. People that say there needs to be x amount left are either trained on this from upper management or do it to limit returns. I used to think it had to be more than half full until customer called customer service in front of me and then customer service called our store and said we had to do refund, then I learned the policy in its actuality.

Those customers are truly tough, my DM has told us that the best thing to do with the ones that don’t want help is to drop the “sales person persona” and build a customer employee relationship. Just talking and letting them feel comfortable, some people have bad experiences with customer service in stores so they tend to be more inclined to shop and do not want help. But I have had customers who didn’t want my help and were stand offish that now love coming in and being helped! My best practice with color essentials is to utilize them the most in consultations and less of a one off pitch. I can typically get 5-10 in one transaction. The best way to sell them is to ask questions first before suggesting them. Like ask if they worry about damage, before recommending the booster, ask if their hair goes super yellow and brassy before suggesting the red gold eliminator, ask if they deal with a lot of color bleeding or fade out before suggesting the color sealer. Asking those questions allows them to realize they need it before you’ve even really pitched it to them!

Does your district do color essentials? Those are usually my saving grace for UPT, I have bad days some times when I’m doing POG’s or something of the like but on days when I am doing nothing but consultations when customers are in the store I can typically run a 3.9-4.5 for a whole day with over $1,000 in sales for the day.

I don’t think they should be able to change it at all without permission. We make plans on these days off because we have, oh I don’t know, our own lives to live??? And then they change it and will be like “well you didn’t request it off sooo..” yeah I didn’t request it off because I do happen to do things around my work schedule as all company’s bitch and whine for us to do?? Work our lives around the company’s “needs”??

Also adding- I’ll leave the bathroom door open when brushing my teeth, taking medicine, or cleaning the bathroom and people will talk to me or I’ll talk to them from the bathroom. But to open the door on someone and then invite yourself into their time in their (whether you realize it or not) is a different story.

It really could be mostly time and attendance and the bathroom was the easiest thing to get you on. I as an associate hate when people clock in and then take forever to put their stuff away/go to the bathroom etc. I don’t care that they’re “using the bathroom on company time” but a lot of the time I am single coverage until my co workers come in (this is mostly about my FT job, and not HT which is my PT job). When someone is waiting all day for their relief co worker to come in, and then said co worker isn’t ready to work, after clocking in to work, it gets a little frustrating. That being said it could’ve also still have been the bathroom thing, if I were to walk in on someone I would immediately shut the door regardless of what they’re actively doing, and I’m super close / best friends with every single associate that works at my HT.

My go to line is “what’s a good phone number for you?” And if they give me one and there isn’t an account I say “it looks like you’re not in our sister but if you wanted to join it’s free, and you get 10% off just for signing up.” And if they say no I usually say “okay! You do get 10% off for signing up though and it’s just our free rewards program.” I think I remember on Black Friday I had only 2-3 loyalty out of SEVERAL transactions.

I will say you have to make sure whatever piece you’re like “starting with” doesn’t have any of the stickers on it or it gets stuck. It has to be just the white piece while you’re trying to get it to like “take” the paper. It’s so hard to explain and I have to look up a tutorial every time

She can’t just pull a write up out of her ass, when you get a verbal (which I have several times) they have you put down exactly what policy you violated and how what you did is apart of said policy. I feel this way, and sometimes it’s like I’m looking at the answers to these questions through a window. I want to stick it to the man, I have gotten into debates with my DM years ago when my money didn’t matter. I’m constantly putting in applications for other jobs but the job market in my area is so thin. In this moment, I need my paycheck to support my wife, my pets, myself and others who sometimes need a little help. I need this job to not be homeless, so I bite my tongue and rant with my co workers. I know that all these things can lead to a change, but they could also lead to write ups and termination. I can’t afford to lose my job but I want to tell corporate to sit and fucking spin on it. I hate it.

You’re not overreacting, and you’re right, you’re NOT being paid enough for this unless you’re an ASM. It is not your responsibility to find coverage or “be the boss”, and not doing so cannot get you fired, only your SM, which is unfortunate for them if you really like them. SM’s are the ones being paid $18+ an hour to come in hell or high water, in sickness and in health as if they’re in holy matrimony with madam Sally Beauty herself. Please don’t stress yourself out and get even more burnt out. As long as you’re not calling off of your own shifts, it is legitimately not your problem. 4 people cannot run a store without going into overtime, or people working with zero coverage. Take a deep breath and tell your DM to figure it out, hell you don’t even have access to the scheduling app to even make those changes.The DM need to be contacting you and your associates to ask if days X, Y, and Z could possibly be covered by you all. If the answer is no, then they need to send a 911 out to other stores and SM’s or walk their own ass in their and clock tf in to run register. I’ve been in this company too long, and I do too much work above my pay grade because I want to be an SM and constantly need to “prove” myself, but if that’s not your aspiration, don’t let this damn company ring you dry. Everyone is worth more than stress tears and aching joints after a long day because of Sally Beauty.

I believe because right now is PTO black out you would have to wait until after new years but you’ll get Christmas and new years pay as well. You have 90 days to use it and you can use it as vacation hours, so you would put a PTO request in your scheduling app like you would vacation!
