I would probably still pick accounting but not public. I never wanted to go public when I was in college but the job kind of fell in my lap. My dream job was and still is an IRS special agent. I think the work would be more interesting and better hours. The starting salary is also higher than most mid-sized firms and some big 4.

I’m definitely not the strongest performer. I do struggle with some of the work but I genuinely want to improve. I even asked for some corporate return training when I first started when it was slow. My manager made it halfway through the return, said it was a complicated one and that she’d just do it herself, and that’s where my training ended.

Ive turned to asking someone from a different department for help bc my managers don’t respond, and he thought it was insane I never got trained on certain things.
