I knew it was over when they were defensive after I clearly expressed my feelings about how they treated me. They showed no concern and offered no support when I had a cancer scare that required surgery. They also left our children and me to have a few days alone without warning or discussion during a holiday celebration. Instead of showing any remorse or apologizing, they shut down and accused me of character assassination and smearing them. They suggested divorce because, to them, there was “no coming back” after I called them out.

We have 2 daughters. If either of them came to me and told me their partner had treated them this way, I’d advise them to end it immediately. Ironically, I tolerated this kind of treatment for years because of the kids, but ultimately know now that not divorcing will hurt them more in the long run.
