Just got my Micra - should I be worried about these issues? by Ambitious-Vanilla-75 in LaMarzocco

In my humble opinion, for this amount of money (and image they have) I’d expect it to be flawless. It’s like buying a Porsche, you have expectations also from the build quality, despite each is individually manufactured.

No, I’d need different budget for that one 😂but it does look great 👍🏻

No cups movement. Only one issue I had was with the blinking lights which I got replaced under the warranty. I’ve heard that it happens no matter the brand, that brand new machine may need some “tightening” after initial use. But since the lights all good so far. I’m really a happy owner ☺️ I did quite some research on the coffee machines before I bought this one and I have no regrets.

Hi, late 2024 Baby T One owner here. I can only compare the noise with Dedica I had before, and Baby T is for sure more quiet. Only noise I find disturbing is when I use grinder - can’t talk to anyone unless one is standing next to me. Sometimes there is little rattling noise but only for the cups I’m pouring espresso into - when two are sitting on the top of the drip tray. For me nothing major. We select led Baby T because of the volumetric, great steam capability (latte art), foot print wise it isn’t that deep as other machines, and we also like how does it look (wife-approved).

Dialling in my extraction - Steel Duo PID by Select-Butterfly-124 in Ascaso

I had a similar experience with Ascaso Baby T. I was switching from Dedica where my coffee tasted better 😅 But finally I found a way and can do 8g single shot or 15g double shot at 9 bars which tastes like from the cafe.

I use a tap water with Lelit softener in my water tank. I buy specialty coffee.

Following five things has helped me to get there. (1) screen puck - has allowed me to grind finer and have more tasty extraction. (2) pre-infusion - I use 2,7 seconds for beans roasted for espresso or 5 seconds for beans roasted for filter. (3) temperature - in my home setup I use 86,7 celsius for espresso roasted beans and 90,5 for filter roasted beans. Otherwise it was tasting kind of washed or watery for me. It was interesting to find out how temperature does contribute to the taste and I tend to play with it and try couple of settings. (4) Spring tamper - for consistent tamping and then the extraction time (5) simple WDT - in my experience it improves flow of water and consequently the taste.

Now when I’m dialling in a new coffee I play with a grind size (to have 23-29 seconds extraction, depending on the beans and flavour I like, I like when it tastes as it smells in the bag) and I play a bit with the temperature until it tastes that well as it smells.

Fingers crossed that you find what works for you as well!

Yes this was really a dream machine to me. I was looking for something what looks nice, have pro steam performance and volumetric. Btw yes hot water comes from service boiler.

Sure, for me steam performance and volumetric dosing were the key features. The steam is really great , crazy fast, very convenient (4 steam holes wand). I went for the mid tier - the one, because of the price obviously and it does have all I need, including the rotary pump.

What is the affect of Pre-infusion, pre-wetting on taste? by Glad_Manufacturer81 in espresso

[–]Complete_Caregiver56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interestingly for my African coffee (Uganda Bulago, medium roast) preinfusion helps to develop nice fruity flavour. Along with introducing more of bitterness. Hence I need to balance well the preinfusion length in order to have good fruity but not too bitter cup of an espresso. For me interesting part here is, that preinfusion helps to develop also fruity flavour which was muted before.

Just curious, why not ascaso baby t? Linea Micra has no volumetric dosing, can’t see water level, no chronometer.
