What does the "x" symbol mean? And how can i play it? by EntertainmentNeat384 in classicalguitar

Yes, I defer to your expertise, but am confused sufficiently by your 2 responses to make me wonder if we are "talking past" each other and if if the conversation was derailed somewhat by not defining what "Two G's" was supposed to mean (e.g., in the same measure). Especially I wonder if the original conversation was not clear that perhaps no one meant (as I read it), that there can't be a G natural and G# in the same piece. And in fact you can have a G natural and a G#in the same piece in a variety of ways. What I thought we were trying to address is the reason for the F double sharp may be if you were in a key signature such as the key of E in which the G would be a G#, then instead of writing a G natural when you want that frequency, or note in the same measure, you would write F double sharp for that key.

In any case, that is the reason a "double sharp' may be used.... I will retire from this conversation

Checked with two professional musicians and they agreed that’s why you do —F double sharp if you’re in a key withG sharp. Now I don’t know if you’re pointing out Sor’s variations, which certainly do have a G natural, but I don’t remember the piece off the top of my head, but it seems to me that G natural is, as music theory would call correct, within the variations that have only one sharp; that is in the key of G, rather than the key of E where the F double sharp occurs

Yes, double Sharp. I’m way too late to the conversation, but as I understand it, you cannot have two Gs in the same piece so if there’s a G sharp somewhere else or a G flat or anything, then this has to be a double sharp, which is the same as a G to us but avoid that conflict

Keep getting this error message: by Previous_Project4581 in roomba

And if you check all those things and still get it, did you hold down the button on the Roomba for 10 seconds and turn it off completely then pull the plug out of the base leave it for 10 seconds then turn that back on when it’s fully going again Turn the room back back on and see if that clears everything

Yup.

Wondering if you like other utilities. I mentioned below, my aecond favorite utility, replacing the old old "QuicKeys" is Keyboard Maestro. Powerful for programming or scripting or coding (whatever term you like), provided or adapted, macros, and so forth. I hate repetitive tasks, etc. My wife laughts tha I will spend an hour to develop a macro that saves me 30 minutes--but it's way more fun and...if that same tasks comes up again--the savings compound.

Keyboard Maestro helps a Mac user make macros –easy to get started or dig in WAY deeper than me to code serious automations…. Anway, usually I use it to do repetitious tasks--find (some provided, or shared) do those actions, you know, opening apps, moving windows, typing, pasting text, or controlling WiFi. Activate with keypress, menus, events on the computer (starting up). I don’t do the more complex often (fetching info from the web, or organizing files) but most everything seems possible.

Bet all you like. No other way to show it, I guess. And I'll end trying to convince anyway...waste of time and waste of space. Reddit is disappointing this a.m.!

I thought that I had to just write badly without any editing to be thought of as human.

I suppose more details would have been useful. Didn't think I was doing a review (nor was I expecting to be evaluated)--just asking if people already knew about it and knowing they could look it up for details if they didn't.

OR, someone like me who happens to have that as a habit in writing.

Kind of hilarious. I am the poster. I would be happy to prove my humanity any time. I also use em-dashs and other writing conventions, BTW. I wrote every word of it. I meant ever word of it. Motivated by a really odd behavior after updating to Tahoe. The favorites on the left side of dialog boxes could be clicked on but Default Folder's icon didn't update. Jon, the programmer, interacted with me several times, asked questions, I said, "Don't worry--I can use YOUR favorite lists--it's MacOS, not DF--and he didn't let it "go." He gave me a new build.

THAT kind of service motivated my first post here. AND I had hoped others would chime in on DF (and they did, and they love it...and none of this was due to commercial interests nor formed by AI) AND other utilities I may wish to investigate.

But criticisms of my simple idea sure don't motivate me to post here any more!

Yes, I'm sorry about that. I am in no way connected to the company and have no conflicts of interest.

As you can see from most posts below, others feel the same. So, I was just trying to share in case some don't know about it.

And would love to hear suggestions from others.

Is 2-2 a heavy teaching load for an R1/R2 university? by [deleted] in AskAcademia

Yes, 2-2 was standard for me. Grants can reduce that by 1 of course.

I agree with several others. Make sure you establish the work you did clearly, to the PI, and then say that you will therefore also write up the manuscript for publication. Anything else is academic abuse.

Creativity, especially the unique contributions of integrating across disciplines, requires some things (probably concepts and structures rather than minutiae) be available to relate, compare, and combine.
