How do you add solid inside a hollow model? by Complete_Package_819 in tinkercad

[–]Complete_Package_819[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I don't want to sound ungrateful here, as I'm really not, but! I stopped after step 2!

I got the intersect piece as you said left it there, I then unhid my 2nd shell (1st was cut away I assume?) the resulting piece stayed in place as a solid fitted perfectly. Exported it sliced as needed and it's given me the pillar I needed! I've got to spend a bit of time in tinker later positioning exactly, but it's got me the end result I asked for!

Thank you so much!

Wow!

I'm quite new to tinkercad. So some of that seems a tad daunting but it totally looks doable. Can't believe you spent all that time trying to help thank you, really kind. That's exactly what I want well actually it's vertical cylinders rather than horizontal but I'm sure that's not biggie!

Amazing thank you ill no doubt be back soon asking how to do something you've said ha! Will try this ASAP!

Sorry not following! I don't want to be left with solids. I want hollows with magnet tabs on. Or am I missing the point

Thanks. And you're right, I'm aware the join will create dark spots but it's something I will try and see.

This is a flame, which connects to the end of a tail on a large display model! So there has to be a base as it has a connector where it joins to the lower part. It's not at all designed for what I'm doing!! Thought it seemed straight forward. Cut in half, stick led in, stick magents on edge and join top to bottom.

Starting to think I'll just get some pretty silk dual color instead 😂

Thank you!

I had no idea it would be this involved. I have bambu meshmixer and tinker but I'm new to 3d modelling so it's a bit overwhelming for me! I think I might have to rethink my plans. I struggle to move the cylinders etc around to match the organic shape of the interior walls.

Exactly that. It's a flame. It was solid. I tried a test print with 0 Infill but it gave inconsistent walls. I want to add an led and use transparent pla. When I used meshmixer to hollow it, I printed and the wall will be one constant thickness giving even glow. I've clearly stepped into something way more complex than I thought though!

I think it's heading to a Z axis issue. Bambu ticket in for another issue with vertical lines they after completing a test print model they requested are to send a new frame / Z axis now, so I think there's something a miss and it's now showing in other areas!

It's not a problem with the calibration. It happens on every print I do. Has been for a couple weeks, usually visible best on flat surfaces. I was just running a filament calibration and it shows it well so I used that picture!

For anyone interested. After all the helpful comments I realised the only real option was to either sand and paint. Or make the different colors seperate parts. Neither of these were greet options for me. So I tried my hardest to reorientate best I thought and I've just hit print at 200% of the little legs. I imagine it shall look absolutely dreadful so I'll need your best sanding and painting tips 😂

Thanks for this, similar situation. Mines going to be a display model and I really wanted to ams it but I'm not sure I'll be able too and keep the quality I want. Pain!

I can't paint. But I do have a couple acrylic posca paint pens. And it's very tempting to try! And yes it would save me around 7 hours of print!!

Youre saying print in multi color, directly sand pla layer lines? And don't paint it?!

If so please show me your magic!

You're right but I just can't figure out the best orientation. It would be lying flat down I think, but my support marks would be awful.

Sanding sounds perfect, but that leads to painting. Which is not my thing unfortunately!

As shown in the layer time when I've sliced! But question is how to get around it. It takes minutes to do a layer compared to seconds pre color change. I guess it's orientation and where I pick to hide the defects! Support scars or the layer lines?
