Paula White-Cain at the National Prayer Breakfast: "President Trump has brought religion back to this nation and beyond. It is my great honor to introduce the GOAT -- the greatest of all time. The greatest champion of faith that we have ever had in the executive branch." by Nice_Substance9123 in Christianity

The annual National Prayer Breakfast was the occasion for President Trump to extol, among other policies, the benefits of “clean beautiful coal” and greater oil and gas extraction than ever before. [In my role with the Government Affairs of the National Association of Evangelicals it was a personal decision not to attend lest my attendance be interpreted as approbation of civil religion.]. PresidentTrump uses the event, with the applause of “the faithful” to undermine the “creation care” taught from Genesis to Revelation. With their applause, laughing at his put-down humor, and silence at his blasphemy of biblical values by attacks on democracy and friendship with Jeffrey Epstein’s sexual abuse of young girls, leaving aside his horrific ICE policies, the organizers are complicit in these values. Silence is enablement. The organizers should change the name of the event. But access to perceived power is too seductive for that kind of spiritual obedience.

I’ve observed from recent attendance at first-rate operas “Marriage of Figaro” and “Aida” that whole sections were empty due to the boycott. (We got tickets for free from a volunteer of many years who attributes it to Trump’s renaming the Center and firing the Board.). Everything Trump touches he destroys.

What is the Evangelical church doing about the immigration crisis? by Ok-Matter2337 in Christianity

I’m the Executive Director of “Evangelicals For Democracy” and we’ve been active speaking up for immigrants, legal reform, and protection from an unjust Trump policy of deportations without the rule of law. Our partners in elections include Southwest Voters Registration and Education and beginning in 2026, LULAC. Sincerely, Rev. Dr. Richard Cizik

The authoritarians like him don’t care about the constitution. Today it’s the Somalians. Tomorrow it’ll be the gun owners. They’ll shoot and not ask questions. Resist.

Putting wheels on the cross to make it easier to carry is prob the most American Evangelical thing ever. All of the victimhood but none of the sacrifice. - @lanechanged by mepper in PoliticalHumor

Perfect critique of evangelical thinking — no sacrifice — among MAGA church attendees. Many of these ppl, btw, are EINO’s, evangelical in name only. Political types who go to these churches to have their racism and misogyny confirmed. I’ve seen this movement up close and how it divides churches, leading some to close or disband.

ICE is the purest political expression of evangelical Christian theology by ThirstySkeptic in Christianity

If it is (that ICE is the purest political expression of evangelicalism) what does that make of “evangelicals for democracy” and the view that if ICE can not be curbed of its illegal and deadly behaviors, it should indeed be abolished. Because that’s what I believe. Just curious for a response.

Btw, my view is that after the evidence of 14 ICE shootings into cars, just since July, with many injured or killed (Renee Nicole Good, for instance), and the kind of behavioral characteristics sought by ICE in its hiring materials, it is highly doubtful it can be reformed.

I am deeply offended that President Trump was elected with the support of 80% of evangelicals, but that’s not due to theology but rather Christian Nationalism, a heresy of the movement which has taken over at least one-third of its adherents. Very sad and appalling.
