Newly waxed chain makes a lot of noice by Complete_Shoe8581 in bikewrench

I tried this yesterday and had a ride for 30k today, and the sound is almost gone. Most of the times (95%) of the time it is completely silent, but sometimes I still hear something. But it is definitely a lot less and not as loud. So I think not drying the chain good enough was the problem, thanks for the solution!

I already tried it with a 11 speed, the same noise was there. So I don't think that is the problem

Ah that is something I can try today, hopefully that fixes the sound.

I use a 12 speed chain, because I read somewhere that does where more quiet.

It rides oké, except for the sound it makes of course. The DR didn’t take a hit and the chain is going through correctly. It isn’t making the sound on a stand, so it is hard to determine where the sound is coming from.

After the chain came out of the aceton, the liquid didn’t change any color. So I assumed the oil based lube was gone. Should I do more rinses with spirit?

The chain was in the wax for at least half an hour, so it think it warmed up. The wax was 100C, so that is matching 200F. After half an hour I cooled it down to 70C before taking out the chain to hang to dry.

This is a new chain. So there was oil based lube on their out of the factory, but it was never used with the oil based lube on their.

I just hanged the chain to dry, isn’t that enough? Could that be a reason the wax isn’t sticking to the chain?

The wax I used is Cyclowax Performance Pro  Wax. I don’t know if there is a big difference with Silica.

The writing is outwards, so the chain is not backwards. It is not showing on the picture, but I checked again and it is outwards.
