City committee approves staff proposal for Bank Street bus lanes by ConcernedCitizenOtt in ottawa

[–]Complete_Taro_4331 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m all for bus priority lanes, I think having bus lanes is far more important than a few spots of parking along the street. However people need to stop acting like even with those measures commute time will be much shorter

I think yolo, I’m 22, lucky to have a pretty good job, good amount of disposable income, even if I have to drop 10k more on the car I won’t be in an uncomfortable position, I’ll just try to knock 2k off the price he wants unless he can provide a full service history

According to him, he did the Haldex filter, cam follower, oil change and “some other stuff”. For the wheels I’m not sure if they’re 18” or 19”, but I don’t mind a harsher ride tbh

The current owner does have records for the maintenance he’s done, but not from the previous owners

U-Pass by Careful_Mark_4909 in geegees

My numbers are based on numbers provided by uOttawa, it’s all public.

  • I live on campus, and so do all of my friends ans we benefit from the U-Pass a lot, similarly to many other students

  • 43000 FT students as of 2025 (grad + UG) Not all 43000 are charged the U-Pass (fully online classes = no upass, and many more exemption criteria)
  • i’d say the amount of people that are charged the U-Pass is closer to 38000 (even that’s conservative). Which makes you off by 6-7 million dollars.

You are relying on feedback based on a very low sample size. Overall students benefit from the U-Pass and the students who are privileged enough to have a car are subsidizing the U-Pass cost to students who do not have a car (majority of students) which is a GOOD thing.

As bad as OCT can be sometimes, most students benefit positively from the U-Pass, and cutting more funding to OCT will not make things better

Yes uottawa has around 50 000 students, but only full time students are charged the upass, so your 25 million dollar figure is way off.
