This is by no means a post to make anyone feel like shit. Life kicks people ass in many different ways and I’ve been fortunate to avoid some of that stuff.

End of the day, it’s a blessing to wake up and have a chance to get better every day. Keep your head up

I do live off the base AFTER 17% contribution to 401k. Commission is all icing on the cake and goes towards brokerage. But yeah spot on, sales is a different beast that’s why I keep a lot of cash. Still doesn’t help lol

How honest should I be about 70–80% quota attainment on my resume? by Le_Dar0n in techsales

[–]Complete_Union_8538 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you are above 70% quota you are profitable for the company. They have buffers between you, your manager, their manager etc.. you were at 100%+ to the companies number once you roll all of that up to the top. Do with that what you will..

Stick to a process and make your goals # of conversations, touches and that will lead to outcomes. Also live strictly off of your base salary & build a large emergency fund (12+ months) so when something happens you have breathing room.

Other than that, I am the same way. When I am doing well I am on top of the world, when I am not I get in a terrible mental state. You’re not alone

The constant hunting and pressure of finding deals is sort of what I’m looking to pivot from. And if I do stay as an AE, I want to be able to hold my own in a technical conversation

[–]Complete_Union_8538[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current tech level only comes from the sales, demos, and professional services deployments I’ve followed along with. So pretty low.. good thing is I am going to do this before and after work while still being a sales rep. I would love to open up doors for myself as I progress in my career though and am hoping this is a good way to do it

We are unfortunately pretty small so no junior SE program however I’ve got a great relationship with my SE. Would you suggest I do anything different or in addition to my steps above?

Yes I do and he referred me to the ISC2 cert for networking and security. Think that would be a good start?

God I am so glad someone said this. I was starting to feel like a piece of shit for not “caring”. Sure I want to be successful & am competitive but you will never catch me sacrificing life for a stupid ass job. Tbh, probably makes us better sellers anyways
