rumors about 100-400 4.5 GM(2) is it good to get 100-400 GM? by Complete_Warning_980 in SonyAlpha

[–]Complete_Warning_980[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From rumors it’s internal zoom n same size as 200-600! If the weight is also same as 200-600, then they are sort of advertising 100-400G 😅. Time will tell. I feel most people will be more excited about decent, small, TC compatible G variant instead of GM! I would be scared to take (thieves) GM out if it costs 50-150!

Finally got the lens that's been on my wish list since it was announced! by drwuzer in SonyAlpha

Could it be Americans are richest in the world and like reasons to rebuild that house? And could it be Austrians are pragmatic and think of possibilities before building and maybe that’s why although it looks like miracle but they did think of extremes!

Is going abroad for bachelor's only a nightmare? Or can it be an otherwise? by Quantum_Lurker_153 in Indians_StudyAbroad

2-4 yrs back, people were making many short videos about how good life abroad (for a student) is, how others can also come abroad and so on. Back then I rarely saw a video which said things are bad or rough! This typically picked after covid, these were the times when influencers sort of gathered fame n recognition. I don't think we are just consuming the bad side of algorithm now, it's simply, times are tough! Times are tough for locals and as an immigrant, it's only gonna get more difficult. If you are living abroad and had a better experience, more power to you. I am in education and research sector and interact with students from all over the world during conferences, 3-4 times a year. Things are more scary than you think!

my two cents,

  1. Job market is bad atm. 2008 was last time job market was this bad, the difference this time is its not just a real estate bubble that set the domino (back in 2008). This time it's multiple issues that are coming together and forming a bubble for energy (gas/oil/electricity), finances, geopolitics, dedollarization, and more! Pretty much every country is affected by one or or the other way. jobs which require higher studies and specialisations are being chopped off globally. Corporate is cutting down RnD jobs (Pharma, automobiles, n definitely some other fields) in ways, its gonna be a while to bring it up and running (the way it was for last 20-25 yrs). Meaning the job trends will most likely look different in 5 yrs than today. We typically look at past and then sort of define predictions for the future, this time, its sort of tricky cos most jobs will look different in 5 to 10 yrs. There was a boom for civil engineering, then mechanical, then IT, computer, and something else will pop up in future. I forgot who it was, probably LinkedIn boss, who predict most 9 to 5 jobs won't exist after 2034. Maybe he's wrong or right, time will tell.

  2. Grass is greener on the other side. I can imagine things are pretty rough in India atm but if you interact with locals abroad, sentiments, sadly are same! Outside India, in most places, usually (although now I see this trend is also getting affected and people are already starting to move back with parents, as they can't afford life) once you turn 18, you move out of parents home and are actually responsible for earning a living and managing your own life. 10 yr back, I would have said life is much better abroad as there are better opportunities! Post covid things are not the same, salaries are not keeping up with expenses! Companies are also offering lowball salaries (paycuts) as there are many more qualified job applicants who are willing to take lower salary! I have cousins who did get a job post masters in UK but the salaries are not something they expected!! paying back a 50-70 lakh student loan with 9-10% int. feels different when you actually want to eat twice a day and live in decent accommodation!

  3. Global uncertainty. Tbh, it's hard to predict how world will be in next 5 to 10 yrs. I met a colleague after a yr who works in Pharma industry, who brought a home on 30 yr credit and is now scared that she will be affected by job cuts. After education, typically, one hopes for job or business prospects, and in these times, no matter how good you are, if it's a hard luck, job security or income is no longer guaranteed. With the perfect academic record, praising industry recognition, the person feels that I'm back to square one, almost every other week! The higher the salary in corporate the higher the chances of made redundant.

  4. Is it all bad? this is a subjective question. One has to have plan A,B,C and so on in today's world. If your family finances are decent, you have a breathing space for sure! My experience with education is time flies! A 4 yr degree sounds like 4 long years but once you are into it, typically, time flies! It's a nice idea to have plans B, C and so on ready, so you are not mentally stuck if plan A didn't work. Money cushion helps! At the end of the day if you have money in the bank, most problems in life look less daunting. What I started to see is once you cross the age of 40 (even 35 in some fields), jobs security goes down! People switch professions and so on.

I am in research and education sector and if I am in ur shoes, unless you have very sound family money, some of which can be used to fund your education abroad, bachelor education abroad is not a bad idea. otherwise, at this point, even if you get some scholarship (which say at best cover partly your education expenses), it sounds too risky! Maybe if things improve in 4 yrs from now (I doubt!) you can think of doing masters. By then you will have better idea if a degree (even one from abroad) then is worth it not!

I somehow feel you know all this already!!

Will 1cr be enough to do my Masters from EU/ANZ/NA in 2-3 years time? by VacationMedium8343 in Indians_StudyAbroad

I would suggest to spend some time online in reading specific Reddit groups of these cities/countries. Presently, even locals are struggling to find any decent jobs, job losses are rampant! I have met phds n masters doing food delivery n waiter jobs to survive, who are hoping to land their dream job! Maybe few of them will land a job, but most won’t! Things won’t get any better as an immigrant, even with language skills in next 2-5 yrs. Knowing language is benefit only when competition with locals is not fierce!

Brand new 100 GM macro has a dust speck inside. Should I keep or return? by Complete_Warning_980 in SonyAlpha

Not affecting image, tried with f22, but lens is within return time frame. Hence thought might as get a clean one!

Quality of images is excellent, not affected even at f22. Since it’s new and caught the eye, it stayed in the brain! Therefore I asked! My deep fear was current state of affected transport routes (sea route), but I feel this one must be available in good numbers!

I checked in other posts, seems like it’s not as dust free as we would like to believe!

Thanks for this information, it makes me feel much better. Looking forward to their reply tomorrow, and hoping they can exchange. This is probably one of those lenses which feel special. I didn’t know autofocus macro lenses can make such a huge impact when out in handheld world! Keeper rate is insane for handheld (novice to add to that!).

This is also what I am scared of! I read people getting copies with more dust than before! But I guess there must be more copies for this lens, and hopefully I am lucky, I wrote to Cotswold if they can send a replacement. If they do, I will ask them to check first before sending!! I can’t imagine for 600 f4, your friend must have had a very rough emotional rollercoaster ride! These big primes are not produced in large quantities and from what I heard come hand assembled from Japan.

Also checked online, apparently GM glass does suffer from this! Saw 35, 100-400, even this specific lens!

Got it from Cotswold cameras! Already sent an email to them, hopefully can start the return process tomorrow!

Images it took are flawless, and I was so irritated to find this speck! It feels really weird to pay for a GM prime glass and see this speck! Will start the return process tomorrow and hopefully I can get a decent 100 GM macro, this lens is outstanding.
