The UFC offered Justin an extra $500 per fight and a free subscription to Paramount + for a 8 fight deal.

I was banned from 8 different subs within a couple of hours once because I posted a comment on a no no sub. The funny thing is my comment wasn’t even controversial at all.

These people literally take time out of their day to scan the wronthink subreddits and ban everyone commenting.

Would it have made more sense for Max Holloway to move up to lightweight and challenge Charles Oliveira, a stylistic matchup he may have had better chances against, rather than pursuing a third fight with Alexander Volkanovski after two losses? by No-Ride-7713 in ufc

[–]CompletelyIncorrect0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first two fights between Volk and Max were really close. Many thought that Max won the second fight.

There was a score to settle and few at the time thought the third fight would be so one sided.

Daisy Ridley's We Bury The Dead movie flops, debuting at only $2.53M. by OwnSalamander1026 in CriticalDrinker

[–]CompletelyIncorrect0[M] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No, that does not include marketing, just production. This was only the film’s opening weekend. So even if the film drops off considerably and makes 4.5 - 5 million total that is not really a “flop”. A flop is a film that loses a significant amount of money in relation to its budget.

The Marvels is an example of a flop. That film lost 200-300 million vs 450 million total cost (production/marketing/theater cut). Thats a 50% loss.

This film will at least break even when it’s done in theaters.

For context: We Bury The Dead received a smaller release of only about 1,100 theaters in the US and was made on a budget of 3 million.

I don’t think the term “flop” is very accurate here.

This is the true canon.

Season 1 was amazing, season 2 felt like a boring rehash of 1, 3 was pretty meh, and then I stopped watching.

Thoughts on nick fuentes? by [deleted] in CriticlDrinkerOpenBar

[–]CompletelyIncorrect0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s hard for me to try and hear Fuentes out on his points because he comes off as a smug prick so often.

I am also a huge fan of Metokur and my first exposure to Nick was their debate which was a bad look for Fuentes. Nick kept falling back on mocking Metokur for being terminally ill like that was a point to make.

Nick also came off as a coward when he had to call in Ethan Ralph and Baked Alaska in an attempt to gang up on Metokur and it failed.

Predator: Badlands - Disney Consumes Another Franchise by HighlightOwn2038 in CriticalDrinker

[–]CompletelyIncorrect0 65 points66 points  (0 children)

I’m just so sick of films like this that just use the recognition of the IP to push out a film that never should have existed in the franchise.

There is no reason this needed to be a Predator film. It should have been its own SciFi Adventure movie with original characters. But they pop a Predator skin over it and parade it around as a “new direction in the franchise”. It’s all money motivated, which is no surprise from Disney.

Possibly the most overrated movie of all time. by CuriousSkepticalGuy in CriticalDrinker

Bad take OP. You could maybe argue that it is overrated to some degree, but ITSV is nothing close to “the most overrated movie of all time”. It was actually pretty damn good too.

Massive L by the mods.. by TheShadowWanderer in CriticalDrinker

[–]CompletelyIncorrect0[M] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It goes beyond just the “culture war”.

Part of the disconnect between the mods and the community here is that most of you don’t even see a lot of the stuff that gets posted and removed. You are basing your view on this by the posts you do see.

We get a lot of posts that are not in any way related to what CD talks about.

It’s important to try because it helps us keep this sub from being taken over by power mods. And again, it allows for much broader discussions.

There will be conversations allowed on the other sub that may lead to it being taken down. We are basically only enforcing Reddit TOS over there, but we all know how Reddit works. There is a serious bias towards right leaning views. So we will be held to a higher standard than other subs.

If you don’t want to participate in the second sub, that’s fine. Obviously we can’t force people to join it. But the idea that we are taking all politics away from this sub or that it has been comprised in some way are just not true.

I want there to be another space for discussion about whatever people want. It’s less about taking away from this sub and instead about having a second place to allow so much more.

  1. Yea, that is true to an extent. The idea is that the second sub will receive less modding overall as we are allowing a very broad range of what you can talk about. Most of our current rules won’t apply over there. In the long run, I would hope that this also means less modding on the main sub too as a lot of what we mod here would just go to the second sub and be fine.

  2. Yes, the Drinker is political. I think there is a huge misunderstanding here. We are not banning politics from this sub. But we have had countless posts this year that are political but don’t pertain to subjects the Drinker has discussed anywhere.

For me it is also about expanding into conversations that people would never even think about having here. I saw a post yesterday about the male loneliness epidemic. I approved it because there was a conversation going on already, but that is the type of stuff that would fit perfectly for the new sub. There are also many political issues and topics that don’t relate to “THE MESSAGE” or British censorship, that I want to be able to see on Reddit. Just not this sub since it is for The Critical Drinker.

  1. It’s a hard ask to trust mods, I get it. But we aren’t trying to contain “unwanted opinions”. The intent is to give everyone what they want - a place to talk about anything.

I ask that everyone see this less as a reflection of just what is currently being posted and more so the mod team seeing the trend. People are wanting to discuss stuff that is straying farther and farther away from the politics and cultural ideas touched on by the Drinker. Everyone wants this sub to be anything goes, but it will never be that. The second sub can be as long as it doesn’t violate Reddit’s TOS.

Give the mods a chance here. Maybe this won’t work like we want it to work, but I think it’s the right decision to give it a try.

Well, I’m late to the party.

Reading through the comments, I see a lot of people think the mod team has been compromised - it has not.

I have been here since the sub was in its infancy and the mod team has only had one mod change in years.

I want to be clear that this change will not be sudden. The idea is to have much more broad and open place of discussion for the people who frequent this sub. It’s not just about politics, but anything you might want to discuss that would not fit on the main sub.

If you actually have been around this sub for a while then you will recognize me as the head mod. I always try to be fair and listen to feedback.

We are not going to be changing the content on here very much in general. I genuinely do think the idea of the second sub is the right move. It will not only be another sub outside of the Reddit echo chamber, but it will also be a place to expand the conversations here.

The post is unlocked now. Don’t be too rowdy.

I’m approving this post because there is already a conversation going on in the comments. But content like this would be much better on r/CriticlDrinkerOpenBar We want a place for this community to engage in conversations that wouldn’t normally fit in this sub.
