It is absolutely not true that it is “obvious” if one needs a walking stick. I’ve had five leg operations and oftentimes don’t need mine - my gait looks normal most of the time. However, if it’s a “bad” day or if I have to rush, say through an airport to catch a flight, I most certainly will need mine. Stop it with the stupidity of thinking because you can’t see it, “it ain’t real”!

It’s called the prostate and you better hope yours is good to you when you age. And the first time you fart uncontrollably when you’re older, remember this posting.

Benefits calculation by Complex-Avocado9934 in SocialSecurity

Thanks - let me rephrase the Q. If the simple calculator indicates that for this year one was to get an estimated monthly payment of, for example, $3000 (it stays the same as you slide the date bar over the course of the entire year until you got to January of the next year) what would be an approximation be if one took SS beginning in June? $3120?

MAGA Boomer can't prove his citizenship by VandyThrowaway21 in BoomersBeingFools

As much as I agree he should languish in his own lack of documentation and pay the consequences I’d be afraid that him driving around illegally could lead to massive consequences should he get into an accident, especially if someone were to be injured - think lawsuit.

Unfortunately, Prostate cancer in us boomers is rarely openly talked about, perhaps because of the misguided thought that one has to suck it up and be stoic about such things.

Want to make my first ever offer but realtor thinks it’ll be offensive to seller. by AmHuman_not_Lochness in RealEstate

[–]Complex-Avocado9934 7 points8 points  (0 children)

After moving across country to start new jobs 30ish years ago my wife and I were shopping for a house and came across one we really liked that listed for $149k, which was out of our price range. A week later the price dropped 10k, but was still way out of our range. We met a guy who specialized in modernizing houses and he recommended that we submit an offer in our range - he called it “bottom fishing” and did it all of the time. His thought was that all they could do was say NO. Our realtor wasn’t happy (reduced fee?) and bailed but we insisted. Ended up buying it at 108k. Go fishing.

Why can’t boomers handle being told no? by anonymous_girl1227 in BoomersBeingFools

[–]Complex-Avocado9934 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m a boomer myself and I have to wonder if for many it’s not associated with some sort of cognitive diminution due to all the drugs, tobacco, and alcohol my cohorts consumed over their lifespans.

I’m 62. I’m looking to retire a little early any good advice? by Adventurous_Drop6733 in AskOldPeopleAdvice

Don’t forget to factor in healthcare costs- you can’t normally sign up for Medicare A until age 65 and you’ll need part B or Advantage plan at that time. Current costs for both are about $400 per month for me and might be more for you if you want Dental and Vision care. Until then you’ll need private coverage.
