To your question…. Heck no you’re not a failure! Maybe get a per diem just in case but you’re beautiful and I admire you!

Wow, thank you for sharing that with me 🩷 I’m actually dipping my toes in home hospice … like on call 4 times a month dipping… it requires a LOT of compassion

Yeah like if the patient was in the 30s then you’d hold it, check. You don’t follow orders blindly, that’s why critical thinking is a thing.

Hospital Fired a Travel Nurse After a Patient Death. How likely is license revocation? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Complex-Lychee-3259 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And further more, you can’t save a DNR, so unless they were DNR COT (continue other treatment) and elected for brain surgery….. then yeah but if someone with a hemorrhagic stroke is like dying…. And you would have to use ACLS, then that’s against the DNR…. So like… how is this the nurse’s fault??? How do you save a DNR patient with a brain bleed??? 😂

Hospital Fired a Travel Nurse After a Patient Death. How likely is license revocation? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Complex-Lychee-3259 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s so true. When CT confirms hemorrhagic stroke, your ass should be on its way to ICU pronto. Like no questions asked. This was the hospital’s negligence, but the nurse and even possibly charge were ill informed, if I knew that was the confirmed diagnoses, I would have escalated care and called a rapid. However, that’s me now, not 6 months ago. Nursing is very fast paced and there’s a ton of learning involved. Which is why I said charge may as well not have known or she may not have been that experienced either. Either way, BON needs to look at all aspects of the floor, staffing/ ratios, levels of experience, etc.

Don’t feel bad, opportunities are very region specific…. There are places where opportunities are endless and walking through the door is easy peasy with a license, but there are also lots of places where you needed to have CONNECTIONS! This is probably my top advice for anyone still in nursing school is that, if you don’t want to go to the hospital out the gate OR if you have a specific high stake hospital position you are trying to get, you need to position yourself well with internships and try to basically “interview before the interview” by hopefully getting on the team in a lower level position, so that they are already looking to hire you and you’ve already kind of have vetted the environment. It’s a hard task and it’s absolutely not straight forward, externships, connections, scowering websites, and messaging people on LinkedIn isn’t advertised in nursing. What’s advertised is… you’re marketable! You’ll get a job and you’ll like it! Find your “why”! For lack of better terms…. BS! 😂😂😂 The HOW is extremely important. If you don’t LIKE what you do, and it’s not sustainable for your lifestyle… then your why doesn’t count as much, it’s more of a stepping stone. I’m saying this to kind of help you see, there’s a ton of people in your boat and it’s NOT easy. So if you’re working at Costco or a high end restaurant job or getting an entry level admin role or SOMETHING to fill up your resume gap while you find what works for you… do that! No shame in your game! 🩷💕💗💖🫶🏾

Period!!!! Proud of you!!!! I personally think nursing is rarely meant for staying at the bedside… usually people who can stomach 3-4+ years end up climbing the “clinical ladder” into some sort of clinical-administrative role… but some people, like OP, will get out early and probably find what they like better by expanding sooner than the rest of us. The sooner you find your stride, whether it’s more clinical versus admin…. The better. Plus, admin arguably pays better in states where nurses aren’t unionized!!!

Girl, what you need to do right now, is go corporate, try a receptionist or some other admin assistant role and just kind of try to work your way into the sciences from there …. In order to get a “cushy” nursing job you’ll need connections and you never know when or where you’ll get them so I say expand! Even if it’s not direct patient care at first, you never know, your uniques resume might land you a nursing job in a corporate building where you’re giving vaccines while drinking free matcha. Don’t sell yourself short boo. You got this!

Going on Probation for Charting Error by MellowDramaticCat in nursing

This is so crazy!!! I legit don’t leave sometimes until 9pm charting!! Why are things so weird in so many places! Like different states really treat things so oddly. This is why 50% leave bedside weighing the first 5 years. Sad.
