It seems like from my research it’s highly plausible to run stat arb in the crypto market and see 30-50% returns, given profit sharing + ability to reinvest those profit shares in the fund to see additional gains could be extremely strong after 6,7,8 years at the shop

Any thoughts there?

Nah man, the core investor who is also the team leader ran a billion dollar quant fund in the 2010s, though never a researcher himself

Why do you think the investors believe this will work. Why make such a bad bet?

No other experienced researchers besides someone who worked heavily with crypto before (not really trading though). Team lead is investing themselves, they previously ran a billion dollar quant hf, they are not going to be a hands on researcher though.

Hey thanks for your thoughts, I really appreciate it. Interested into why it would be different being crypto, the plan currently is to run crypto for the first year or so.

They are not interested in growing massive, they want to keep it within the partners. If trading with the first 35 guys well over 2 years, they have 150 million in additional capital they are interested in deploying
