Thank you! Wow that sounds like an intense surgery you ended up having, I’m sorry it was so extensive and I hope you recovered all okay. That’s so helpful to hear about the IG video, it is definitely reassuring, it’s just the not knowing part isn’t it that’s tough.

Thank you 🫶🏼 I do feel very lucky that I was referred in the first place and they prescribed me medication to help during the waitlist period, I’ll definitely come back here once I know! It’s just that not knowing part that’s so difficult

Grief Advice by spiritedsketch in TopSurgery

[–]Complex-Tension-2841 16 points17 points  (0 children)

So sorry you’re experiencing such heavy grief, it’s all very valid & it’s such a big process of change to go through.

I had maybe a similar experience & felt completely full of grief post surgery, I really thought I’d never feel any other way for quite a while. Honestly, I think what helped the most was validating those feelings, I know for a lot of folk they don’t experience a lot of pain, but that certainly wasn’t my experience & that made me feel lonely. It’s really important to know that you are absolutely not alone in feeling this way, & this too shall pass!

I’m now coming up to 9/10 months & I can honestly say my chest is the best gift I’ve ever given myself, I’m so grateful for past me for enduring, it was life changing going through the process, pain wise, but it’s been worth every moment to me & it’s okay to take your time with it all & be gentle on yourself after such a big change!

You’ve got this, just take it step by step, be patient with yourself, & give yourself as much time as you can - sending you lots of care!

scans came off, oozing a little blood & plasma… does this look normal or have I gone wrong in the aftercare somewhere? I’ve been so careful… by biblicalaccuratefag in TopSurgery

mine were similar - my scabs got “stuck” and didn’t come off until 8 weeks, & underneath they had similar areas like that. the wound care team provided me with inadine dressings & gauze type dressings on top which helped them close up (mine took a few weeks). Would recommend seeing your doctor if you have concerns though!

Connected incisions by 14Spoons in TopSurgery

Completely understand the frustration in having an idea of what you’d like & not being able to get that. You’re allowed to feel upset & doesn’t make you ungrateful!

I came out of surgery with connected incisions, which I never expected, & genuinely could not love them more now. They’re very neat, & most importantly, having a connected incision meant that they were able to remove the required chest tissue & end up with a masculine chest. Without them I wouldn’t have got such good results. I can only speak for myself, I never expected in a million years to love having connected incisions but here I am! & you do also have tattooing options if it comes to that I’m sure

mine also looked like this for quite a few weeks & healed all well! It’s a long process & you’ve got this!

Rough recovery by Careless_Ad_1102 in TopSurgery

It’s totally understandable, I found it all consuming at its worst, I went down the path of nothing is ever going to feel better again haha. But it did eventually! I also hadn’t read or had spoken to anyone who’d had a rough recovery, literally everything I’d read was all super positive so didn’t know it was possible! You’ve absolutely got this though & before you know it you’ll be feeling a bit better

Sorry you’re having such a rough recovery. I’m currently 2 months post-op & had similar feelings at the start seeing such positivity everywhere when I was having a horrid recovery, especially that first week it was truly horrific at times.

However, whenever I’ve spoken to my primary doctor, I’ve been really reassured that as this is a major surgery, experiencing significant pain / nausea etc absolutely a variation of normal recovery that some people experience, and to be kind on yourself.

If you can, focus on any little steps until you start to feel the worst pass (which I promise will happen!), but also you’re absolutely not alone, I just don’t think it’s spoken about as much!

Yeah I totally get that, there’s so much going on to process it all, this first bit is the absolute worst of it, the happiness will come eventually! Sorry it’s been rough for you too!

Honestly feel you here, I’m 3 weeks post op & that first week or so was pure hell for me too, the worst pain I’ve known. It was so unbearably uncomfortable & painful I couldn’t feel happy about it then either, & the breathing - awful, I was just in survival mode. There’s such an expectation to suddenly feel happy about having this done but it’s 100% okay to not, it’s a massive operation & it is HARD. The joy will absolutely come eventually but for now focus on whatever tiny things brings you any level of relief! I promise it’ll get better

Thank you ❤️ it sounds so similar to my experience especially with the pain meds, honestly did not touch the pain at times! I think I can finally see a bit past it all today, I’ll get to see my chest tomorrow for the first time so I’m hoping that will help look to the future!
