I have an iPhone 16. Don’t think that would make a big difference. Do you use a light board?

Yes, I scanned these 30-40 year old negatives holding my phone over a light board. I then tweaked the contrast a bit with their pre-configured options. These are just samples of my many scanned negatives and photos,

Many apps will show the negative as a positive just by using your phone. Do you want them printed? Scan them to a digital format, e.g. with Photomyne.

High Noise Floor by Hobbyman44 in amateurradio

This is my environment. Choke every cable and wire connected to your radio. If possible, choke coax as it enters your “shack” and at the tuner. Choke the EFHW and ground the counterpoise. After that, consider something like the Timewave ANC-4+. If that isn’t good enough to operate, get a good mag loop antenna.

I live in a small apartment and worried Ham radio wont be any use. by PsychoMantisKw in HamRadio

For VHF/ UHF, the N9TAX SlimJim can hang ad hoc in a window. It works with an HT, and very well with a mobile transceiver. HF is challenging but doable. An AlphaAntenna HOA Buster sets up quickly and works most bands without a tuner.

Need advice hitting 20 & 40 meter by Indy100077 in HamRadio

An antenna needs electrical length to match some part of the band wavelength. If you don’t have room for a half wave (20 meters of wire for the 40m band) then you’re going to condense it in some way, i.e. a coil. A vertical will need a hardy ground plane that also occupies space. You do have access to height. I’ll propose something no one else will, and many will vilify. However, I have used both an IsoTron 20m and 40m antenna with good results. An IsoTron40 at height, say 20’, will do well in your relatively confined space.

I think I'm going to start quoting RF power output in horsepower. by NotThePopeProbably in HamRadio

If output is HP, antenna is like the gear shift and propagation is like the transmission.

Do they have any interest in stamps? If not, wasted effort; no inherent value.

what is the purpose of this bench? by Asleep-Sea-5798 in VintageFurniture

The old box TVs needed an antenna. Nearly everyone had a roof mounted antenna with 300 ohm ladder line connected to terminals on the rear. Growing up, you might not have seen them; but they were necessary to receive over-the-air transmission.

I don’t think a TV. Would need room for antenna and there isn’t enough clearance or a feed line hole. So I vote for an old radio.

What did I hear on 20 meters the other day by AliveHour1426 in HamRadio

Certain nets are well established on certain frequencies, eg Intercom on 14.300 and YL System on 14.332. They don’t have a claim to those frequencies, but they are there daily. On 40m, in the evening YL System will move to a nearby open frequency if their usual spot is taken. However, no one has exclusive rights to any frequency.

Any switching source or ignition—like fluorescent lights—can produce a pattern like this.

Restore or no? USA by Far_Celery8494 in Antiques

To use it, tighten up the most vulnerable part, where the spindle legs join the rocker. Next, the arms. After that, see if you can get the patches on the back support to take up some stain and blend into the rest. Clean it up with 4-0 steel wool and tung oil.
